About our bespoke kitchens in Vanbrugh Park Estate
We often use moisture-resistant MDF in kitchens, because it copes with a room that gets steamy. For drawer boxes and shelves, birch plywood is a good choice. Cabinets are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. Most enquiries start with a kitchen planned around your appliances and a painted dresser for the kitchen, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
With a large share of homes around Vanbrugh Park Estate built before 1919, a chimney breast often survives in the kitchen, and it can frame a range cooker or a dresser. Any capped chimney should stay ventilated, and damp is dealt with before anything is fitted. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
Our quotes are written in plain words. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
What prompts bespoke kitchens in Vanbrugh Park Estate
Some want a kitchen that suits a period house. A painted kitchen with a dresser can feel at home in an older room and look as if they belong.
We’re often asked to help with:
- A larder for food and small appliances
- A kitchen island with room around it
- Room for everything in the kitchen
- Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
Living in a block of flats near Maze Hill station? Then kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.
Before you choose who makes it
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- How doors and drawers are fitted
What we do not do
Some parts of a job need another trade, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Building work, such as removing walls
- New sockets or circuits
- Any work on the gas supply
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.
What it’s made from
- Islands where space allows
- Larders and dressers
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Birch plywood
- Hand-painted finish
Is bespoke worth it?
Many off-the-shelf kitchens use chipboard carcasses with a printed or wrapped finish. Ours are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray or hand painted, so the finish can be repainted later. Ready-made units stop well short of a tall period ceiling, and that space collects dust instead of storage. Built-in pieces can run to the cornice or the picture rail.
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
Why choose us

- Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Every quote follows a design visit

From workshop to your room
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so kitchens are made in sections sized to get through. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out.
- You let us know about the kitchen and where it is in your home.
- At the design visit we measure the kitchen and the route in, including stairs, doorways and any lift.
- We send a written quote.
- The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to come in through your doors.
- The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
Before fitting day
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Empty the space we will be working in

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Vanbrugh Park Estate
Can you fit bespoke kitchens to the uneven walls of an older house in Vanbrugh Park Estate?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Vanbrugh Park Estate?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations. Check your lease, as we cannot advise on it.
What are the kitchen cabinets made of?
MDF for smooth painted parts and birch plywood for drawer boxes and shelves. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in colours you choose.
