Kidbrooke homes and bespoke kitchens
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 60% of the housing in the streets around Kidbrooke, with about 13% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Kidbrooke include Coronet Cinema (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 33% of households in the neighbourhood around Kidbrooke live in terraced houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. Terraced houses often have long, narrow kitchens, so cabinets made to the room’s exact widths make a difference.
For a family home near Henwick Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. The wider area includes historic houses such as Eltham Palace, about 1.3 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. For a flat near Kidbrooke station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.
Kidbrooke is in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, about 2 miles north-east of Plumstead. We cover Kidbrooke as part of our work across Greenwich. We cover places right across Greenwich, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
Postcode districts we cover here for bespoke kitchens: SE3, SE9 and SE18. We cover homes on streets like Brome Road, Briset Road and Nesbit Road, for bespoke kitchens and any of our other fitted furniture. We also cover the places around Kidbrooke: Well Hall (1 mile south-east), Shooter's Hill (1 mile east), Middle Park (1 mile south), Horn Park (1 mile south-west) and Blackheath (1 mile west). Other parts of Greenwich we cover include Plumstead (2 miles north-east), Greenwich (2 miles north-west), Woolwich (2 miles north-east), Westcombe Park (2 miles north-west), Maze Hill (2 miles north-west) and Coldharbour (2 miles south).

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Kidbrooke
Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, sized to what you keep in them. In an alcove or at the end of a run, it can use space that would otherwise be wasted. If your home has cabinets for a narrow kitchen and a larder for food and small appliances, kitchens made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
Where a back room and kitchen have been knocked together, a kitchen-diner may have a chimney breast at the dining end, and the recesses beside it can take a dresser or larder. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Kidbrooke, the design can make the most of it. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and damp is sorted first.

Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted kitchen can be refreshed over time.
Plinths and scribe strips
A plinth hides adjustable feet and lets the cabinets sit level. Scribe strips follow the wall.
Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.
- You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
- A written quote follows for the cabinets, materials and finish.
- We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and a Gas Safe engineer.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
Getting a quote
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, message us from the contact page. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Advice
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Many off-the-shelf kitchens use chipboard carcasses with a printed or wrapped finish. Ours are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray or hand painted, finished to suit the room. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

What else we make in Kidbrooke
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Questions we’re often asked
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Kidbrooke station?
Yes, homes across Greenwich and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you contact us.
