Bespoke kitchens in Wanstead, Redbridge

What we do not do

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Moving water or waste pipes
  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Islands where space allows
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Larders and dressers
  • Spray-painted finish

Bespoke kitchens in Wanstead: what you get

A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe engineer and electrics by your electrician, and we plan the cabinets around where their work goes. If you’re living with spaces sized for your oven and fridge and a kitchen for a room that isn’t square, that is what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

In a semi or detached house, there may be space for a utility cupboard as well as the kitchen. Much of the housing around Wanstead is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Utility cupboards can be made in the same style and paint colour as the kitchen. Plumbing for any appliance is for your plumber.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Fitting day, step by step

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the kitchen.
  2. We visit, measure and talk through the layout, larder, dresser or island, where space allows.
  3. A quote in writing is sent to you, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The kitchen is made at our workshop.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics. It helps to have those trades booked in good time.

How to prepare

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Starting with a design visit

To make a start, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and a quote in writing follows.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in Wanstead

The price for your room depends on:

  • The internal fittings
  • Parking near your home
  • How square the room is
  • How big the furniture is

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

Getting in touch

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • What the furniture needs to hold

You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, use our contact form. You receive a written quote after the visit.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Wanstead

Is Wanstead in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes, Wanstead is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Redbridge and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Do you cover homes near Leytonstone High Road station?

Yes. We cover all of Redbridge and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough measurements. To send them, use our contact form.

Who chooses the colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you.

What does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, use our contact form.

Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?

The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and we design the cabinets around them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Wanstead?

Kitchens in older homes can be short on cupboard space. Larders, tall cupboards and deep drawers can hold much more without crowding the room.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
  • Tall larder storage
  • A kitchen island with room around it
  • Extra cupboard space

For an older house near Wanstead United Reformed Church, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Whether they measure the room themselves

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Ready-made cabinets often have chipboard carcasses. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, painted in colours you choose, so the finish can be repainted later. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Wanstead

In the streets around Wanstead, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 33%) and before 1919 (about 28%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Wanstead is partly covered by the Wanstead Grove Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. We’ll plan where the van can stop.

For a flat near Leytonstone High Road station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. Close to Valentines Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.
