Loft storage in Wanstead, Redbridge

Loft storage designed for your room

About our loft storage in Wanstead

The low space behind a knee wall is often the most useful in the room. Eaves cupboards and pull-out drawers built into the knee wall put it to work. Pull-out drawers mean you do not have to crawl in. We measure and plan for the space you have in Wanstead. If your home has space under the eaves going to waste and seasonal things cluttering the loft room, that is what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Wanstead, many have had the loft converted, leaving low eaves and sloping ceilings. Fitted storage can make use of the eaves, the bay or the hall. For lofts, we work in spaces that are already converted or boarded.

We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

From workshop to your room

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. It starts when you get in touch about storage in your loft, whether it’s a converted room or a boarded space.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up, and discuss the design with you.
  3. A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed. You can ask us about any of it.
  4. Your storage is made at our workshop, shaped to the loft, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill, with the doors and drawers checked with you.

Before fitting day

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

How to get a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit. To arrange the visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Your questions about loft storage in Wanstead

Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Wanstead?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Wanstead?

Yes, Wanstead is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Redbridge and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do you carry out loft conversions?

No. We don’t carry out loft conversions. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.

How long will the loft storage fitting take?

How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Because everything is made in our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We work tidily and keep the stairs and landing as clear as we can.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Tips worth knowing

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. These habits help most:

  • Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured
  • Make a list of what you want to store in the eaves

A soft, damp cloth is the best way to keep the storage clean. Avoid scourers and harsh cleaners. Handles and drawer edges pick up marks first.

Don’t overfill drawers, as heavy loads strain the runners. It helps to clear out now and then. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.

Where other trades come in

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off
  • Loft conversions, which we do not carry out
  • Any wiring, which needs an electrician

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

What goes into it

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Birch plywood
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

What prompts loft storage in Wanstead

Boxes, suitcases and seasonal things need a home. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. The room stays calm and clear.

Here’s what loft storage can help with:

  • A boarded loft that is hard to keep organised
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
  • Low eaves that nobody can use
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished

Close to Valentines Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

What to check before you book

  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • How they handle walls that are not straight
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
