About our bespoke kitchens in Loxford

A dresser brings a traditional feel to a kitchen, and in a period house it can look as if it has always been there. We make dressers to fit the wall they stand against and finished to match the rest of the kitchen. Most enquiries start with a kitchen island with room around it and a painted kitchen in a colour you choose; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Across London, neighbouring streets can be decades apart in age, so kitchens range from narrow back additions to open-plan rooms. The kitchen is designed for your room as it is. Walls could be brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard, so fixings are chosen for each one.

You get the quote in writing, so there is time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Questions we are often asked

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Loxford?

Yes. Loxford is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Redbridge and London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Loxford?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.

Can you build an island in my kitchen?

If the room is big enough, yes. We measure at the design visit to check there is room to walk round it and open doors, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

What does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Every kitchen is different, so we quote once we have measured. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. Check your lease, as we can’t advise on it.

The problems bespoke kitchens solve

A painted kitchen can be refreshed later, which suits a long-term home. Hand painting is simple to touch in or refresh later on.

We’re often asked to help with:

  • A larder for food and small appliances
  • Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
  • A layout for a small or tricky room
  • A dresser that suits a period house

If you live near Loxford Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

What to check before you book

  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?

Fitting day, step by step

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including anything on the walls near the work. We cover floors and doorways first. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the room.
  2. We visit to plan the layout and check how the cabinets will get into the room.
  3. A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
  5. We carry everything in and fit the cabinets, while your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics.

Preparing the room

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Ask for a quote

We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a written quote. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To book a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Caring for painted furniture

People planning bespoke kitchens often ask about these. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:

  • List what needs a home in the kitchen
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Measure the route into the kitchen
  • Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in

Use the cooker hood or open a window when cooking, to keep steam off the cabinets. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.

Talk to your plumber, electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register early. The pipes, cables and gas supply need to suit the layout, so it helps if everyone knows the plan.

Loxford homes and bespoke kitchens

About 39% of the homes in the streets around Loxford went up before 1919, and about 24% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Loxford include Barking Station Booking Hall (Grade II), about 0.6 miles south. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Terraced houses are home to about 35% of households in the streets around Loxford, according to Census 2021. Terraced houses often have long, narrow kitchens, which suits cabinets made to the exact width.

Eastbury Manor House, about 1.2 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If you live in a flat close to Barking station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

What it costs

There’s no set price, because there’s no set room. The things that affect it are:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • The overall size of the piece

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It is useful to talk about parking during the design visit.

What to send when you get in touch

These details help when you get in touch:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • How you want to use the space
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
