Bespoke kitchens in Woodford

Our bespoke kitchens are fitted in Woodford and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through the layout, followed by a quote. The cabinets are made at our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you can plan around it. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a central island in a larger kitchen and a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers.

Around Woodford, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the walls are often straighter than in a Victorian house, but they’re still measured carefully. Each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site. Gas work is for a Gas Safe registered engineer, and the plumbing and electrics are for your plumber and electrician.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Kitchens in Woodford homes

About 33% of the homes in the area around Woodford went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 24% between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Woodford, Historic England’s list includes Hurst House (Grade II*), less than half a mile west, and South Lodge of Harts Hospital (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-west. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Redbridge sets its own rules. If your road in Woodford falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

Close to The Highams Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. For families living near Woodbridge High School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. The wider area includes historic houses such as Valentines Mansion, about 2.7 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Questions from Woodford

Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Woodford?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Woodford?

Yes. We cover all of Redbridge and the rest of London, and Woodford is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.

What materials do you use for kitchens?

Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Can I have a kitchen island?

Yes, where there is space. At the design visit we check the clearances around it, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.

How fitting day works

In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it sits neatly against the room. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout.
  3. We send a written quote setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made at our workshop.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.

Before we arrive

  • Empty the space we will be working in
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Arranging a design visit

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.

Materials and finishes

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and shelves. The edge can be left on show or painted.

Doors and drawer fronts

The style of the doors sets the tone of the kitchen, whether plain or framed.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:

  • How square the room is
  • The internal fittings
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The overall size of the piece

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Helping us understand the room

Ahead of the design visit, we will usually ask about:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • What the furniture needs to hold

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a quote in writing. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

When you need someone else

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Making good walls and ceilings
  • Gas work, which is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register
  • Moving water or waste pipes
