How we make bespoke kitchens for North Wembley

We often use moisture-resistant MDF in kitchens, because it stays stable and takes paint beautifully. For drawer boxes and shelves, birch plywood is a good choice. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in the colours you choose. We make kitchens from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a kitchen planned around your appliances and a layout for a small or awkward room.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around North Wembley, walls tend to be truer than in older houses, though nothing is assumed. Each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site. Gas work is for a Gas Safe registered engineer, and the plumbing and electrics are for your plumber and electrician.

The furniture is made at our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it’s worth mentioning at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the kitchen. Say a little about the way you cook.
  2. We visit, measure and go through the layout, larder, dresser or island, where space allows.
  3. You receive a written quote, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics. It’s useful to have those trades booked in good time.

Preparing the room

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Bespoke kitchens in North Wembley: local notes

In the neighbourhood around North Wembley, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 39%) and the years since 2000 (about 22%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. North Wembley is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Brent are set locally. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

Close to Preston Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. If you live in a period home close to Church of St John, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St John, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in North Wembley

Do you cover homes near Wembley Central station?

Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in North Wembley?

Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London, and North Wembley is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.

Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?

Yes, it’s something we deal with all the time. Few walls in a period house are straight, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.

Do you do the plumbing and electrics?

No, that work is for other trades. Your plumber connects the sink and dishwasher, a Gas Safe registered engineer handles any gas, and your electrician does the wiring, while we make and fit the cabinets.

What does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Every kitchen is different, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in North Wembley

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • How big the furniture is
  • Parking near your home
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The internal fittings

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit.

Helping us understand the room

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the design visit.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
