Willesden Green homes and bespoke kitchens

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Willesden Green were built before 1919 (about 69%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 11%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Willesden Green is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. More than half of the homes in the area around Willesden Green (about 69%) were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Older houses often have narrow kitchens at the back, with floors that slope, so cabinets are scribed and levelled on site.

Close to Roundwood Park? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. Near listed buildings like Church of St Andrew, less than half a mile north of the centre of Willesden Green, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. For a flat near Kensal Rise station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

About our bespoke kitchens in Willesden Green

A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and electrics by your electrician, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. Most enquiries start with more storage in a small kitchen and an island where space allows, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

A large share of the homes around Willesden Green were built before 1919, and in a Victorian or Edwardian terrace, the kitchen is often in the narrow rear part of the house, or in a side return that has since been extended. Cabinets are scribed to walls that wander and levelled on floors that slope. The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall.

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Willesden Green

Is Willesden Green in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London, and Willesden Green is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can you fit bespoke kitchens to the uneven walls of an older house in Willesden Green?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

How long will the kitchen take to fit?

It depends on the kitchen. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.

How are bespoke kitchens priced?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.

Is there room for an island in my kitchen?

If there is enough room, yes. There has to be comfortable space on every side, and we measure for it during the design visit. If the room is narrow, we will suggest other layouts.

How we price bespoke kitchens

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Parking near your home
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

What we need to know

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a written quote. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To book a design visit, use our contact form.

Tips worth knowing

The finish lasts best with a little care. These practical tips help:

  • Talk to your other trades in good time
  • Make sure an island won’t crowd the room
  • Mention any parking or lift rules
  • Measure the route into the kitchen

Hand-painted kitchens are easy to touch up. A spray finish gives a smooth, even surface that wipes clean. It’s worth keeping a record of the colours used.

Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, especially on a colder external wall.

Could you do it yourself?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.

What happens on fitting day

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturdays are possible by arrangement.

  1. First, you let us know about the room. Say a little about the way you cook.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and planning the layout.
  3. A written quote is sent to you, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics. It helps to have those trades booked in good time.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Starting with a design visit

It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, use our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.
