Looking after your furniture
A little care keeps the finish looking good. Here are our suggestions:
- Make sure an island won’t crowd the room
- Measure the route into the kitchen
- Choose your appliances before the design is final
- Talk to your other trades in good time
Let steam escape when you cook, as steam settling on cabinets over time is not good for any finish. Good ventilation helps paintwork last.
If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before changing the kitchen. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.
Bespoke kitchens in Harlesden
An island can be a good addition where there is space for one. We check there is comfortable space on every side, because a cramped island makes a kitchen harder to work in. Where space is tight, a peninsula or a longer run may suit better. We make kitchens from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a painted dresser for the kitchen and a larder for food and small appliances.
In a house built before 1919, a wall that looks solid may be lath and plaster. Since a large share of homes around Harlesden are that old, we check each wall before wall cabinets are planned. Where a wall won’t carry the weight, open shelves or tall floor-standing cupboards can take over.
Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What happens on fitting day
Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that are not straight, so there’s some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. It is useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, as terraced streets are often busy.
- It starts with a short note from you about the room.
- We visit to plan the layout and check how the cabinets will get into the room. Tell us about parking too, as a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension.
- We send a written quote.
- In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
- We carry everything in and fit the cabinets, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics.
Preparing the room
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
How to get a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Questions we’re often asked
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Willesden Junction station?
Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Harlesden?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
Do you supply the worktop and appliances?
We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. It’s useful to choose them before the design is final, and the quote confirms what’s included.
What are the kitchen cabinets made of?
Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours you choose.
Do you do the plumbing and electrics?
No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe engineer and electrics by your electrician, and we plan the cabinets around their work.
Pricing bespoke kitchens in Harlesden
What you pay depends on:
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- The overall size of the piece
We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.
Getting in touch
Ahead of the design visit, we will typically ask about:
- Approximate measurements of the space
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Examples of the look you are after
We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
Made-to-measure kitchens in Harlesden
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Harlesden were built before 1919 (about 52%) and since 2000 (about 32%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 4 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Harlesden. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. All of London, Brent included, is inside the ULEZ. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Harlesden is covered by it. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.
If your children go to John Keble CofE Primary School or a school nearby, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. Near listed buildings like Church of All Souls, less than half a mile south of the centre of Harlesden, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live in a flat close to Willesden Junction station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, rather than ordering from a range. In return, the storage, layout and finish are designed for you. Standard furniture is drawn for modern rooms, so its proportions can look odd in a tall period room, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines, with panels and details to suit the house.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
