About our bespoke kitchens in Church End
Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, planned around what you store. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts awkward space to work. If your home has a central island in a larger kitchen and cabinets built around the appliances you choose, that’s what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
An older kitchen often has a sash window and a back door, which fix where things can go. Around Church End, where a large share of homes date from before 1919, the layout is drawn around those fixed points. Your plumber connects the sink where the design puts it. The worktop, sink and appliances are your choice.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Could you do it yourself?
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.
How it is made
Hand-painted finish

Made-to-measure kitchens in Church End
Homes built before 1919 make up about 46% of the housing in the streets around Church End, with about 27% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Within a mile of the centre of Church End, 4 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Brent included. Vans bringing furniture to Church End fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.
Living in a block of flats near Harlesden station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. For a family home near St Mary's CofE Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Mary, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Fitting day, step by step
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so kitchens are made in sections sized to get through. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.
- To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
- A written quote follows for the cabinets, materials and finish.
- We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.
Before we arrive
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Arranging a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, tell us about the room on our contact form.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Church End
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Harlesden station?
Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Can you fit bespoke kitchens to the uneven walls of an older house in Church End?
Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.
How are bespoke kitchens priced?
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Can you build an island in my kitchen?
If there’s enough room, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we measure for it at the design visit. If the room is narrow, we will suggest other layouts.
What bespoke kitchens cannot fix
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Structural changes to the room
- Plumbing, which is for your plumber
- New sockets or circuits
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

Why bespoke in Church End?
Ready-made kitchens are widely available and often cheaper, and in a square modern room they can work well. Where walls lean and floors slope, they can be hard to fit neatly. Bespoke is a bigger investment, built around the space you have. Ready-made units stop well short of a tall period ceiling, wasting space that could hold things you rarely use. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
