Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Woodford Wells

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.

It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Walk-in wardrobes in Woodford Wells: what you get

We fit walk-in wardrobes in Woodford Wells and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, followed by a quote. Everything is made at our workshop and fitted in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Typical reasons to get in touch are a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom and a dressing table with drawers and a mirror; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

A bedroom in a house from between the wars typically has simpler mouldings than a Victorian one, which makes it simple to take fitted furniture up to the ceiling. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Woodford Wells, high cupboards make a good home for suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.

What it’s made from

Doors and drawer fronts

A dressing table with drawers can be built in if the room allows.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting gives a softer, traditional look in an older home.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

Standard systems come in set widths and heights and rarely reach the ceiling. We can build right up to the ceiling and from wall to wall, which can add a lot of storage. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Woodford Wells

Is Woodford Wells in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?

Yes. Woodford Wells is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Redbridge and London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details.

Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Woodford Wells?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we quote once we’ve measured. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form.

Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?

Yes. Air needs to circulate around stored clothes, especially on an external wall, which can be colder and damper. We allow for ventilation in the design.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Bedrooms in Woodford Wells: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Woodford Wells were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 40%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 28%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Woodford Wells include Church of All Saints' (Grade II), under half a mile west, and Main Quadrangle (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If you live on or close to a main road in Woodford Wells, let us know at the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

For a flat near Highams Park station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. For an older house near All Saints' Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If you live near The Highams Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

What happens on fitting day

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is normally more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
  3. You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units and trim the edges to meet the walls and ceiling.
  6. We check everything with you, and fresh paint should be treated gently at first.

Preparing the room

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

Arranging a design visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.
