Loft storage in Woodside, Croydon

Thinking about loft storage in Woodside? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing, before anything is made.

  • A boarded loft that is hard to keep organised
  • Unused space in a dormer
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope

Loft storage designed for your room

How we make loft storage for Woodside

A sloping ceiling leaves little room for a standard wardrobe. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there is height and shelves or drawers lower down. It makes the most of the room’s height. The design visit in Woodside is where we work it out. People typically come to us about a dormer that isn’t being used and a new loft conversion that needs storage, and the answer is built in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Homes in an area like Woodside can come from many different periods, and so do the awkward corners, from bays and stairs to halls and eaves. Eaves cupboards are designed for the space you have. Meters, fuse boards and boilers keep the access they need.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Woodside homes and loft storage

In the streets around Woodside, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 44%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 26%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Woodside include Church of St Luke (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east, and Woodside Cottage (Grade II), less than half a mile north. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Terraced houses are more common around Woodside than across Croydon: about 48% of households, against about 23%, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. Terraces bring narrow halls and tight stairs, so eaves cupboards are made in sections that fit.

Close to Ashburton Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. If you live in a flat close to Norwood Junction station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Woodside is about 2 miles north-west of Thornton Heath, part of the London Borough of Croydon. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and Woodside is part of that. Our work takes in places right across Croydon, large and small.

Is it time for loft storage?

Some people have a boarded loft and want proper shelving. Shelves and cupboards keep things off the floor and easy to find. It suits seasonal things and boxes.

If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:

  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room

The wider area includes historic houses like Addington Palace, about 2.4 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?

How to choose a carpenter in London

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

FAQs: loft storage in Woodside

Is Woodside in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes, Woodside is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Croydon and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Woodside?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No. Our work is storage in loft rooms that are already converted, or in boarded lofts. A conversion is building work, and Building Regulations apply. Once your loft is converted, we can design the storage.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

What it is made from

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish works well on every part of the storage. It’s carried out in the workshop for an even coat. The colour is your choice.

Plinths and scribe strips

We trim scribe strips to the exact line of the wall and ceiling. They’re one reason fitted storage looks built in. At floor level, the plinth hides any slope in the floor.

How fitting day works

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are assembled, scribed to the walls and levelled. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. A written quote follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.
