Fitted cupboards for your home in Bow

Flats, leases and landlords

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we’ve measured the way in.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

Fitted cupboards in Bow

Utility rooms and boot rooms need storage that copes with everyday wear. Tall cupboards can take the vacuum cleaner, ironing board and cleaning things, with housing for a washing machine or tumble dryer where you want it. Your plumber connects the appliances and your electrician handles any sockets, and we leave room for their work in the design. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are a boiler cupboard that keeps access clear and storage in a corner nothing else fits.

Hallways in newer flats and houses are often short, with doors opening off every side, so there may be only one useful stretch of wall. With many homes around Bow built since 2000, the hall is often where we look first. Even a shallow run can hold coats and shoes without crowding the doors.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

FAQs: fitted cupboards in Bow

Do you make fitted cupboards for homes in Bow?

Yes, we work across Tower Hamlets, Bow included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details.

My home in Bow is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Fitted cupboards are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

What happens at the measuring visit?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.

How long does fitting take?

The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Typically not. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character.

Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Plumbing for washing machines or sinks (your plumber)
  • Moving gas or electricity meters
  • Work on a boiler, which is for a Gas Safe engineer

Not sure whether your space suits fitted cupboards? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Ventilated doors
  • Adjustable shelves
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

What happens on fitting day

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. The time the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are covered while we work, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. First, you let us know about the space and what you need to store. It might be a hallway, a landing, a utility or a boot room.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and talk through doors, shelves and rails. For a boiler cupboard, we plan for the clearances and ventilation in the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. The cupboards are made at our workshop.
  5. The cupboards are fitted in your home and trimmed to follow the walls. We check each door and shelf with you before we leave.

Preparing the room

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.
