Fitted cupboards in Spitalfields, Tower Hamlets
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on fitted cupboards in Spitalfields starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.
- Cupboards that sit well with skirting and coving
- A hallway cupboard for coats and shoes
- A cupboard for a recess or odd corner

Fitted cupboards for homes in Spitalfields
The carcasses and doors are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, depending on what each part needs to do. MDF is stable and takes paint well, while birch plywood is good for long shelves. The finish is either spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in the colour you choose. If your home has a linen cupboard on the landing and somewhere for coats, shoes and bags, that’s what fitted cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Newer homes tend to have finished floors that scratch easily, so we cover them while we work. Around Spitalfields, many homes date from 2000 onwards, and stud walls there take fixings chosen for the board. The storage can sit on its own plinth or be scribed over the skirting.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

From workshop to your room
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Corners and door frames are covered as well. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.
- You get in touch and tell us whether the cupboard will house a boiler, meters or a fuse board.
- At the design visit we measure up and note the clearances and ventilation the boiler manufacturer asks for. Boiler work itself is for a Gas Safe engineer.
- You receive a written quote for the cupboards.
- We make the cupboards in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with vents and access panels where they’re needed.
- The cupboards are fitted and set level, and we check the access with you.
Preparing the room
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
How to get a quote
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. To send them, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Most people come to us because things have nowhere to go. Coats pile up on the newel post, shoes gather by the door and the vacuum lives in a corner. A cupboard built for the space gives everything a place and clears the floor.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- Boxing in a boiler with room for servicing
- Storage for coats and shoes in the hallway
- A cupboard for the meters with easy access
- A utility room with proper storage
Mansion House, about 0.7 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Questions from Spitalfields
Do you cover homes near London Liverpool Street station?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.
Is Spitalfields in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?
Yes. Spitalfields is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Tower Hamlets and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details.
Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?
Yes, and we keep them easy to reach. Engineers and meter readers will need access, so the doors or panels are planned to open easily.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

Tips worth knowing
A little care keeps the finish looking good. Here are our suggestions:
- Make a note of what needs a home
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Measure the route into the room as well as the room
We adjust the doors as part of the fitting. Timber and walls shift slightly through the year, so the hinges allow small adjustments later. If a door catches, it is usually a small hinge adjustment.
Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease first. We cannot advise on your lease, and it is best done early.
