How we make fitted cupboards for Old Ford
Gas meters, electricity meters and fuse boards tend to be where you’d least like them, under the stairs, in a hallway or beside the front door. We can build a cupboard that tidies them away, while keeping them easy to reach. Meter readers and engineers need to get to them, so the doors or panels are planned with that in mind. People typically come to us about a boiler cupboard that keeps access clear and landing shelves for bedding and towels; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Newer homes often have plain spaces left as they are: a recess beside the stairs, a gap by a window, an empty cupboard. Many homes around Old Ford date from 2000 onwards, so spaces like that are worth a second look. The layout inside is planned to use the full depth.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Questions from Old Ford
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Old Ford?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
My home in Old Ford is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Can you build a cupboard around a boiler?
Yes, as long as the design respects the boiler’s instructions. We allow for the clearances and ventilation it needs and make sure an engineer can reach it.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
How much does a fitted cupboard cost?
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.
How it is made
Spray-painted finish
For a smooth, even look, spray painting is a good choice, and it’s done before the cupboards reach your home.
Doors and drawer fronts
In a narrow hallway, the way doors open matters, so nothing blocks the way.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
How fitting day works
With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. The time the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily.
