Chadwell Heath Fitted Cupboards

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted cupboards for homes in Chadwell Heath, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Boxing in a boiler with room for servicing
  • Using the full height of a room
  • Making use of an awkward alcove or corner

Fitted cupboards in Chadwell Heath: what you get

A boiler cupboard needs more thought than most. Every boiler comes with instructions on the space and ventilation around it, and we design the cupboard to keep to them. We make sure the doors open fully so the boiler can be serviced, and any work on the boiler itself is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. People typically come to us about floor-to-ceiling storage in a flat and a cupboard for a recess or odd corner, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

An interwar house usually has a proper landing, sometimes with a recess or an airing cupboard, which can hold fitted storage for linen and spare bedding. If yours is one of the interwar houses, semis or detached homes that make up much of the housing around Chadwell Heath, it is worth looking up as well as down. If a boiler or cylinder sits there, it keeps its clearances and access.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How we price fitted cupboards

Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:

  • How big the furniture is
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How square the room is
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Getting in touch

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

How it is made

Spray-painted finish

Spray-painted cupboards arrive finished, which keeps work in your home to fitting.

Moisture-resistant MDF

Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well, because it stays flat and paints beautifully. It’s a good choice for utility rooms and cupboards on external walls.

How fitting day works

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so it is worth mentioning at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. First, you let us know about the room and what it needs.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, with a note of anything that must stay reachable.
  3. You receive a quote in writing.
  4. The cupboards are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The cupboards are fitted in your home.

Before fitting day

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Arranging a design visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Fitted storage in Chadwell Heath

About 40% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Chadwell Heath went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 32% between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for fitted cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 7 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Chadwell Heath. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Around a third of the homes in the area around Chadwell Heath (about 32%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses of that era often have a hallway wide enough for a coat and shoe cupboard, and a box room that can take more storage.

If your home is one of the older houses near St Chad's Church, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep. For families living near Warren Junior School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Granary to North West of Crown Farmhouse, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Before and after fitting day

Getting the most from fitted cupboards starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Mention any parking or lift rules
  • Measure the route into the room not just the room
  • Deal with any damp walls first
  • Give the paint time to cure fully

Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up. A spray finish gives a smooth, even surface that cleans easily with a soft cloth. It is worth keeping a record of the colour.

If there’s damp on a wall, have it sorted before we fit. A cupboard on a damp wall can trap moisture, and external walls can be colder than internal ones. We can allow for ventilation where it’s needed.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Questions from Chadwell Heath

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Chadwell Heath?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

I live near Chadwell Heath station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room.

Is it possible to build a cupboard around a boiler?

Yes, provided the cupboard keeps to the boiler maker’s instructions. We allow for the clearances and ventilation it needs and keep access clear for the engineer.

What are the cupboards made of?

MDF for smooth painted parts and birch plywood for shelves and drawer boxes. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in the colour agreed with you.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
