About our fitted cupboards in Rush Green
A fitted cupboard is built for one space and nowhere else. It can rise to the ceiling or stop at a height that suits the room, and it is trimmed to the walls so there are no awkward gaps. Hallways, landings, utility rooms, boot rooms and alcoves all make good homes for one, with the inside planned around what you want to store. We make fitted cupboards from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are storage in a corner nothing else fits and tall cupboards where space is short.
With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Rush Green, loft conversions are common, and they leave low eaves and sloping ceilings. Fitted storage can make use of the eaves, the bay or the hall. For lofts, we work in spaces that are already converted or boarded.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

The problems fitted cupboards solve
Some people want to hide a boiler, meter or fuse board. They’re rarely attractive, but they need to stay accessible, so a cupboard has to be designed around them. Doors, panels and ventilation are planned around them.
We’re often asked to help with:
- Tidying away the gas and electricity meters
- Landing shelves for bedding and towels
- A hallway cupboard for coats and shoes
- A boiler cupboard that keeps access clear
The wider area includes historic houses such as Hare Hall, about 2.1 miles north-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, fitted cupboards can fill recesses that are rarely a standard size.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- How parking will work on your street
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Ready-made cupboards are normally made from chipboard with a printed or plastic finish. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, painted in a colour you choose, so the finish can match the room. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Why choose us
- Edges scribed to follow your walls

From workshop to your room
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.
- You get in touch and let us know where the cupboards should go. It might be a hallway, a landing, a utility or a boot room.
- We visit, take careful measurements and go through the design with you. For a boiler cupboard, we plan for the clearances and ventilation in the manufacturer’s instructions.
- We send a quote that sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
- We make the carcasses, doors and shelves in our workshop.
- We bring the cupboards to your home and fit them to the space. We check each door and shelf with you before we leave.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
Getting a quote
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.

What it is made from
Doors and drawer fronts
We make doors in a style that suits the room and finish them to match. Drawers below the doors suit shoes and small items.
Plinths and scribe strips
A plinth lifts the cupboard off the floor and hides adjustable feet. Scribe strips close the gap to a wall that is not straight.
Questions from Rush Green
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Romford station?
Yes, homes across Havering and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Do you make fitted cupboards for homes in Rush Green?
Yes. Rush Green is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Havering and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so it’s worth checking before fitting day.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
Getting it in is planned at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
Tips worth knowing
None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:
- Make a note of what needs a home
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Give the paint time to cure fully
- Keep boiler vents and meter access clear
Your needs may change once the cupboards are in use. Where we’ve fitted adjustable shelves, you can move them as needed, so the space keeps working.
At the design visit, let us know how parking and access work. Much of London has controlled parking and some blocks need lifts or deliveries booked ahead.
