What affects the cost of fitted cupboards
The price for your room depends on:
- The overall size of the piece
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
Helping us understand the room
Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- How you want to use the space
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Fitted cupboards in Hanger Hill
Boxing in a boiler is a job that needs care. The boiler maker’s instructions set out the clearances and ventilation it needs, and we design the cupboard to keep to them. We make sure the doors open fully so the boiler can be serviced, and any work on the boiler itself is for a Gas Safe engineer. People usually come to us about a boiler cupboard that keeps access clear and a utility room with proper storage, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Older homes like many around Hanger Hill have floors and ceilings that slope, and a large share of the homes around Hanger Hill date from then. Each piece is scribed and levelled on site so it looks straight in a room that is not. Picture rails, skirting and cornices are worked around rather than removed, and the paint colour is agreed with you.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Standard cupboards come in set widths and heights, and the space around them is often wasted. A fitted cupboard can run wall to wall and floor to ceiling, so less space goes to waste. Alcoves and recesses in period houses are rarely a standard width or depth, so off-the-shelf pieces either do not fit or leave a gap either side. Furniture made for the space fills it.
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. It is useful to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in Hanger Hill
Do you make fitted cupboards for homes in Hanger Hill?
Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London, and Hanger Hill is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
I live in a flat in Hanger Hill. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Fitted cupboards are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
What do fitted cupboards cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, use our contact form.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.
- You get in touch and let us know where the cupboards should go. It might be a hallway, a landing, a utility or a boot room.
- We come to your home for a design visit, measure the space and go through the layout.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
- Everything is built and finished in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cupboards in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.
Preparing the room
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
Starting with a design visit
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.
Advice
Flats, conversions and lettings
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.
Hanger Hill homes and fitted cupboards
Homes built before 1919 make up about 49% of the housing in the streets around Hanger Hill, with about 26% built between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted cupboards are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Hanger Hill, Historic England’s list includes West Acton Underground Station (Grade II), under half a mile south-east, and Park Royal London Regional Transport Station (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. The share of homes built before 1919 around Hanger Hill, about 49%, is well above the figure for Ealing as a whole, about 28%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That makes period details like uneven walls, alcoves and picture rails more likely to shape the design.
Pitzhanger Manor, about 1.2 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep.
