Fitted cupboards in Acton Green
Fitted cupboards for homes in Acton Green
A fitted cupboard is built for one space and nowhere else. It can rise to the ceiling or stop at a height that suits the room, and it follows the walls rather than leaving gaps around them. Hallways, landings, utility rooms, boot rooms and alcoves all make good homes for one, with the inside planned around what you want to store. We make fitted cupboards from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are space for laundry, cleaning things and boots and boxing in a boiler with room for servicing.
In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Acton Green, under-stairs cupboards in older terraces often house the meters or the fuse board. Those have to stay reachable, so any storage is designed around them. Bays and sash windows in period houses are natural spots for a window seat.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Questions we are often asked
Can you fit furniture in a home close to South Acton station?
Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Acton Green?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form.
What happens at the design visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.
Can you build a cupboard around a boiler?
Yes. We design the cupboard to keep the clearances and ventilation set out in the boiler maker’s instructions, and the doors open fully for servicing. Work on the boiler itself is a job for a Gas Safe registered engineer.
How long does fitting take?
How long fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will talk it through at the measuring visit.
How fitting works for fitted cupboards
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so fitted cupboards are made in sections sized to get through. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.
- First, you let us know about the space and what you need to store. It might be a hallway, a landing, a utility or a boot room.
- We come to your home for a design visit, measure the space and talk through the layout.
- You get a quote in writing for the cupboards we’ve agreed, for you to read through.
- The cupboards are built in our workshop.
- We bring the cupboards to your home and fit them to the space. We check each door and shelf with you before we leave.
Before we arrive
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
Starting with a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.

Looking after your furniture
Getting the most from fitted cupboards starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Make a note of what needs a home
- Measure the route into the room not just the room
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Keep boiler vents and meter access clear
Meter and fuse board cupboards work best when they stay easy to open. Avoid packing things in front of the meters, so they can be reached without a struggle.
Tell us about parking and access during the design visit. Many London streets are in controlled parking zones and some blocks need lifts or deliveries booked ahead.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
A ready-made cupboard rarely suits a boiler or meter. The space needs to suit the boiler’s instructions and leave meters reachable, and a cupboard made for the spot can allow for them. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it cannot tip, and in an older house that can mean fixing into brick or lath and plaster. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

Flats, leases and landlords
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.
Fitted cupboards in Acton Green: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Acton Green were built before 1919 (about 51%) and since 2000 (about 22%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. There are 154 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Acton Green. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and fitted cupboards can be designed to work around them. About 51% of homes in the area around Acton Green were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Houses of that age have lots of recesses, from hallway nooks to alcoves, and walls that are rarely straight, with each one scribed to the wall.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Michael and All Angels, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Hogarth's House, about 0.9 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep. If you live in a flat close to South Acton station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
