Questions we’re often asked

How do you fit fitted cupboards in a flat in West Twyford?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Fitted cupboards are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in West Twyford?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Can a fitted cupboard cover the meters and fuse board?

Yes. We can build a cupboard that hides them neatly and still leaves them reachable. Moving them is not our work, as that is a job for your supplier or electrician.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

How much time does fitting need?

It depends on the job. How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you will know before we start.

Is it possible to build a cupboard around a boiler?

Yes. We design the cupboard to keep the clearances and ventilation set out in the boiler maker’s instructions, and the doors open fully for servicing. Work on the boiler itself is a job for a Gas Safe engineer.

Fitted cupboards for homes in West Twyford

Many landings have a spare corner or wall that could work harder. A fitted cupboard there can hold towels, bedding and the things that never quite find a home, with shelves spaced to suit what goes on them. We plan it so doors open without catching the stairs or the banister. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are storage in a corner nothing else fits and built-in storage that matches the woodwork.

In a family house, the hall and stairs typically carry the most clutter. Around West Twyford, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses make up a big part of the housing, fitted storage near the front door can take much of it. Anything that needs to stay reachable, like meters or a fuse board, is designed around.

We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished.

From workshop to your room

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You tell us where the cupboards should go and what they need to hold, including anything awkward like a boiler or meter.
  2. We visit to measure and check how level the floor and walls are.
  3. We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. The cupboards are made and finished in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the cupboards are fitted and trimmed to the room.

Before fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

What affects the price in West Twyford

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What we need to know

Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • How you want to use the space
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, fill in our short enquiry form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Materials and finishes

Plinths and scribe strips

We trim the edge of each cupboard to follow the wall, closing any gaps.

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface. You choose the colour.

Do you need fitted cupboards in West Twyford?

A new utility room or boot room often prompts the call. Washing machines, dryers, coats, boots and cleaning things all need a place, and fitted cupboards can bring order to them.

If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:

  • Tidying away the gas and electricity meters
  • A hallway cupboard for coats and shoes
  • Making use of an awkward alcove or corner
  • Cupboards for a utility or boot room

If you live in a period home close to Church of St Mary, fitted cupboards can fill recesses that are rarely a standard size.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
