How we make fitted wardrobes for W5
An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, and a wardrobe packed against one can trap moist air. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it to help avoid condensation and mould. Moisture-resistant MDF is a sensible choice there too. Typical reasons to get in touch are a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use and clothes with nowhere proper to go; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the measuring visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
- You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind, and we arrange a design visit.
- We visit to measure the room and talk through the design. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
- You receive a quote in writing setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish.
- We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
What goes into your quote
There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.
What you get with us
- Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Designed for the room you have
- We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
- Scribed to uneven walls
Arranging a design visit
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Fitted wardrobes for homes across W5
Across W5, including Brentford, Northfields and South Ealing, bedrooms come in every size. Each design uses the room’s own widths and height. The inside layout is planned around your things.
About 44% of the homes in the W5 postcode district went up before 1919, and about 19% between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. About 44% of homes in the W5 postcode district were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths, scribed to walls that are not straight. 4 of the 11 places in W5 with their own pages here have their centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission.
Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, W5 included. Wherever you are, the job starts with a design visit.
Ealing: The wider area includes historic houses such as Pitzhanger Manor, about 0.1 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If you live near Walpole Park, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.
Could you do it yourself?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
What affects the cost of fitted wardrobes
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- How square the room is
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.
What we need to know
Ahead of the design visit, we’ll typically ask about:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To book one, message us from the contact page.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Large flat-pack wardrobes can be hard to build in a small bedroom. We make fitted wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home.
What to check before you book
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Whether they measure the room themselves
The problems fitted wardrobes solve
For some, it is about a calmer room. A run of painted doors from wall to wall looks quieter than several separate pieces.
A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
- Not enough hanging space
- Clothes with nowhere proper to go
- A bedroom that never feels tidy
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.
FAQs: fitted wardrobes in W5
What materials do you use?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on the part and the design. The materials are named in your written quote.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
What happens during the design visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you drop us a line using the contact form.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
Will you paint the walls around the furniture?
No. We don’t plaster or decorate, so any work on the walls is for a plasterer or decorator. We finish the furniture itself, as set out in your quote.
