Bespoke fitted cupboards or ready-made?
Off-the-shelf cupboards are quicker to get and normally cost less, and they suit some rooms well. Where walls lean and floors slope, they rarely sit flush. A fitted cupboard is a bigger outlay, but it fits the space it’s built for. Gaps behind, beside and above ready-made furniture collect dust, while fitted pieces are scribed tight to the walls and ceiling, which makes cleaning simpler.
We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To start, use our contact form.

Fitted cupboards in Norwood New Town: what you get
Hallways in London homes are often long and narrow, so a cupboard has to earn its place. A shallow cupboard can hold coats, shoes and bags without blocking the way, with hooks, a rail or shelves inside. A bench with a lift-up lid or drawers under it is another option for putting shoes on by the door. Typical reasons to get in touch are cupboards that suit a period house and space for laundry, cleaning things and boots, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Across London, neighbouring streets can be decades apart in age, so the awkward spaces vary too: a bay, the space under the stairs, a hallway recess or the eaves of a converted loft. The furniture is made for the space as it is. Meters, fuse boards and boilers keep the access they need.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the fitted cupboard we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish.

How we price fitted cupboards
Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:
- Parking and unloading on your street
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How big the furniture is
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It helps to talk about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.
What we need to know
Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- What the furniture needs to hold
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, use our contact form with some details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Making use of awkward spaces in Norwood New Town
In the streets around Norwood New Town, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 30%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 22%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Norwood New Town include Innisfail (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west, and Christ Church (Grade II), under half a mile east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Croydon are set locally. If your road in Norwood New Town falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Parking near your home is worth mentioning at the measuring visit.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in Norwood New Town
Do you cover homes near Gipsy Hill station?
Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
I live in a flat in Norwood New Town. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Fitted cupboards are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
How are fitted cupboards priced?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A small boiler cupboard and a full run of hallway storage are very different jobs, so we quote once we have seen the space. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Can you box in my boiler with a fitted cupboard?
Yes. We design the cupboard to keep the clearances and ventilation set out in the boiler maker’s instructions, and the doors open fully for servicing. Any work on the boiler itself is for a Gas Safe engineer.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you get in touch through our contact form.
What happens at the design visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and a quote in writing follows.
What we don’t do
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Any gas work around the boiler
- Making good walls after other work
- Wiring for lights or sockets
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. How it works.
Boards, parts and finishes
- Ventilated doors
- Hand-painted finish
- Birch plywood
- Adjustable shelves
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Spray-painted finish
From workshop to your room
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It’s useful to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Sections are then carried in and assembled.

- At the design visit we plan the cupboards and check how the sections will get in.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.

Looking after your furniture
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Leave room in front of the meters
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Make a note of what needs a home
- Look at your lease before fixing to the walls
If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can typically be touched in. A spray finish gives a smooth, even surface that cleans easily with a soft cloth. Keep a note of the paint colour for later.
At the design visit, let us know how parking and access work. Many London streets are in controlled parking zones, and blocks of flats can have rules about lifts and deliveries.
