About our fitted cupboards in St Margarets

We fit fitted cupboards in St Margarets and across London. It starts with a design visit, where we measure and talk through what you need, and then send you a quote. Once agreed, we make the cupboards in our workshop and fit them in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are making use of an awkward alcove or corner and a boiler cupboard that keeps access clear.

In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, no two homes have quite the same walls and floors. Fitted cupboards are scribed and levelled on site, so they look straight even where the room is not. The finish, spray-painted or hand-painted, is agreed with you.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the fitted cupboard we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish.

What affects the cost of fitted cupboards

The price for your room depends on:

  • The internal fittings
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote.

Getting in touch

Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it helps to send:

  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

From workshop to your room

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It is useful to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Sections are then carried in and assembled.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the space. A rough sketch helps if you have one.
  2. We visit, measure and talk through doors, shelves and rails.
  3. A written quote is sent to you, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cupboards are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cupboards in your home and check every door.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Getting a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Is bespoke worth it?

You can put together a flat-pack cupboard yourself, and that is a real advantage. Ours takes more planning: a design visit, a quote, making and fitting, and in return the cupboard is built for your home. Ready-made pieces come with a fixed inside layout, which may not suit what you need to store. With fitted furniture, the inside is planned around what you keep.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that’s part of the price. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in St Margarets

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in St Margarets?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

I live in a flat in St Margarets. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Fitted cupboards are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

What are your cupboards made from?

MDF for smooth painted parts and birch plywood for shelves and drawer boxes. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in the colour agreed with you.

Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?

Yes, while keeping access clear. Engineers and meter readers will need access, so the doors or panels are planned to open easily.

What finishes do you offer?

You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

How much does a fitted cupboard cost?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.

Storage in St Margarets homes: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around St Margarets were built before 1919 (about 43%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 24%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of St Margarets include Asgill House (Grade I), less than half a mile east, and The Trumpeters' House (Grade I), under half a mile east. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If your children go to Worple Primary School or a school nearby, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. Close to Richmond Green? Fitted cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. If you live in a flat close to St Margarets (London) station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Spray-painted finish
