Fitted cupboards in Ivybridge: what you get
Our fitted cupboards are made for homes in Ivybridge and all over London. It starts with a design visit, where we measure and talk through what you need, and then send you a quote. The cupboards are made at our workshop and fitted in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. People typically come to us about hiding meters and a fuse board neatly and storage for towels and bedding; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Coats, shoes, bags and the vacuum cleaner all need somewhere to go in a family house. Around Ivybridge, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses make up a big part of the housing, fitted storage near the front door can take much of it. Anything that needs to stay reachable, like meters or a fuse board, is designed around.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Fitted cupboards for homes in Ivybridge
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Ivybridge were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 42%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 24%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for fitted cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Ivybridge, Historic England’s list includes Church of All Hallows (Grade I), about 0.5 miles south-east, and Mogden House (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 42% of households in the area around Ivybridge, based on Census 2021. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.
The wider area includes historic houses like Richmond House, about 1.1 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, a landing recess can take a linen cupboard built to its exact size. If you live in a flat close to Twickenham station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

The problems fitted cupboards solve
Moving into a flat often shows how little built-in storage there is. A tall cupboard in a hallway or a recess can make a real difference, particularly when it uses the full height of the room.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- Tidying away the gas and electricity meters
- Cupboards that suit a period house
- A hallway cupboard for coats and shoes
- Storage in a corner nothing else fits
If your children go to Chase Bridge Primary School or a school nearby, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.
What to check before you book
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Real projects you can actually look at
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Practical tips
Getting the most from fitted cupboards starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Mention any parking or lift rules
- Leaseholders: check your lease first
- Deal with any damp walls first
- Tell us about meters and boilers in the space
Your needs may change once the cupboards are in use. Shelves can be set at heights that suit you, so the space keeps working.
If there is damp on a wall, have it sorted before we fit. Damp behind a cupboard can lead to mould, especially on a colder external wall. Ventilation inside the cupboard helps too.
What fitted cupboards can’t fix
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Moving gas or electricity meters
- Making good walls after other work
- Moving or servicing a boiler

How fitting day works
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.
- You get in touch and describe the space.
- At the design visit we plan the cupboards and check how the sections will get in. It’s useful to let us know about parking then, as a van typically needs a permit or a paid bay in a controlled parking zone.
- We send a quote in writing.
- In our workshop we build the cupboards in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring the sections in and fit them, scribed to the walls. The finish is sprayed before fitting or painted by hand on site.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Keep pets in another room while we work
How to get a quote
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.
Related advice
Your questions about fitted cupboards in Ivybridge
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Ivybridge?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
I live near Twickenham station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
We plan the route in during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
What do fitted cupboards cost?
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A small boiler cupboard and a full run of hallway storage are very different jobs, so we price it after measuring. To get started, use our contact form.
What happens during the design visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
