St Margarets Loft Storage

In St Margarets, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. Your eaves cupboard is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.

  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • A loft room with too many jobs
  • Low eaves that nobody can use

Loft storage designed for your room

How we price loft storage

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

What to send when you contact us

A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:

  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Loft storage for homes in St Margarets

A converted loft often has more storage space than it first seems. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, each shaped to the room. In St Margarets, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. People usually come to us about boxes and suitcases with no home and a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Some homes have eaves, some have bays and some have neither, but most have a recess, a landing or a corner that could take storage. Whatever kind of home yours is in St Margarets, we start by looking at what’s there. Eaves cupboards are then made in our workshop and fitted on site.

The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

What happens on fitting day

In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Before fitting day, we check the route in not just the room, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. We cover floors and doorways on the way in.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
  5. On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Before fitting day

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are

Getting a quote

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough sizes. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Advice

FAQs: loft storage in St Margarets

Can you fit furniture in a home close to St Margarets (London) station?

Yes, homes across Richmond upon Thames and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in St Margarets?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

What do eaves cupboards cost?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough measurements. You can send them when you get in touch through our contact form.

Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?

Yes. A wardrobe made for the slope fits where a standard one cannot. Hanging goes where there is height, with shelves where it is low. It is scribed to the slope and walls.

How long is the fitting for eaves storage?

How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Every part is built in our workshop before we arrive. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

Do you need loft storage in St Margarets?

A new loft conversion often needs storage to finish it. Standard furniture rarely suits the new room. Storage made for the slopes completes it.

People normally get in touch with us about needs like these:

  • A dormer that is not being used
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope
  • Furniture that can’t get up to the loft
  • Boxes piled on loft boards

For families living near Worple Primary School, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.

What to check before you book

  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?

How to choose a carpenter in London

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

A standalone wardrobe can go with you when you move. Fitted storage stays with the house, and it uses the slopes in a way a standalone piece can’t. Which suits you depends on your plans. Ready-made pieces come with a fixed inside layout, which may not suit what you need to store. With fitted furniture, the inside is planned around what you keep.

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it.
