  • Cupboards for a utility or boot room
  • A neat cupboard around the boiler
  • Storage in a corner nothing else fits

Caring for painted furniture

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Leaseholders: check your lease first
  • Keep boiler vents and meter access clear
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Measure the route into the room along with the room itself

Your needs may change once the cupboards are in use. Where we have fitted adjustable shelves, you can move them as needed, so the space keeps working.

Tell us about parking and access during the design visit. Much of London has controlled parking and some blocks need lifts or deliveries booked ahead.

How we make fitted cupboards for Tottenham

A fitted cupboard is built for one space and nowhere else. It runs from the floor to the ceiling, or to whatever height suits the spot, and it’s trimmed to the walls so there are no awkward gaps. We fit them in hallways, on landings, in utility and boot rooms and in alcoves. The inside is planned around what you need to keep there. Most enquiries start with cupboards that sit well with skirting and coving and boxing in a boiler with room for servicing; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

A deep cupboard can lose things at the back, so drawers, lift-up lids or shallow shelves are chosen to suit the space. For a home in Tottenham, what works depends on how deep and how tall the space is. Services like meters and boilers stay reachable.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Do you need fitted cupboards in Tottenham?

Many flats come with little or no built-in storage. A cupboard in the hallway or a spare recess can change how the home works, especially when it uses the full height of the room.

Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:

  • Cupboards that sit well with skirting and coving
  • Storage for towels and bedding
  • A hallway cupboard for coats and shoes
  • Tall cupboards where space is short

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Tower to South West of Bruce Castle, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through.

Storage in Tottenham homes: local notes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 39% of the housing in the area around Tottenham, with about 19% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Within a mile of the centre of Tottenham, 11 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Fewer homes around Tottenham date from before 1919 than across Haringey: about 39%, against about 54%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We check what the walls are made of at the design visit, as they vary with the age of the home.

If you live in a flat close to Bruce Grove station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. The wider area includes historic houses like Bruce Castle, about 0.3 miles west. If your own home is a period one, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way.

Tottenham is within the London Borough of Haringey. Whether your home in Tottenham is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. We cover places right across Haringey.

You’ll find streets here like New Road, High Road and Reed Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for fitted cupboards. Tottenham sits close to the A10. Other places close to Tottenham include Broadwater Farm (1 mile west), Tottenham Hale (1 mile south-east), Tottenham Green (1 mile south), South Tottenham (1 mile south) and Seven Sisters (1 mile south). Other parts of Haringey we cover include Wood Green (2 miles west), Crouch End (3 miles south-west), Turnpike Lane (2 miles west), Finsbury Park (3 miles south-west), Bowes Park (2 miles west) and Bounds Green (3 miles west). Why bespoke in Tottenham?

A flat-pack or ready-made cupboard is quick to buy and often cheaper, and in a square room they can work well. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to leave gaps. A fitted cupboard costs more but follows the room. Off-the-shelf furniture is designed for no room in particular, whereas fitted pieces are designed for one room: yours. It can be painted in a colour chosen for that room.

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

How fitting works for fitted cupboards

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift as well as the room, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. We visit to measure up and go through the design.
  3. You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the cupboards in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cupboards and trim the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. Your finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site; go gently with it at first while it cures.

Before fitting day

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area

Getting a quote

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you’re ready, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.

Questions we are often asked

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Tottenham?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?

Yes. A cupboard can tidy them away without getting in the way of access. Moving them isn’t our work; that is for your supplier or an electrician.

What happens at the measuring visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and a written quote follows.

Can you box in my boiler with a fitted cupboard?

Yes. The cupboard is built around the space and ventilation the boiler’s instructions ask for, and the doors open fully for servicing. Work on the boiler itself is a job for a Gas Safe engineer.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.
