Fitted home offices for homes in Tottenham
A good home office has a place for everything. We can plan drawers, file storage, a cupboard for the printer and shelving, so the work surface stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. For a home in Tottenham, we design it all around what you need to store. Most enquiries start with no way to put work away and shelves that sag under books and files; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Wherever your home in Tottenham sits in London’s mix of housing, the desk, shelves and storage are designed as one piece. Cable routes are part of that, with any new sockets left to your electrician. Shelf spans and thicknesses are chosen so books don’t bow them.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Standard shelving can sag under the weight of books and files. How far a shelf spans and what it carries make a difference. Shelves are made to suit the load, with thicker shelves or support where the span is long. Recesses, sloping ceilings and tricky corners are where ready-made furniture struggles most, and most homes have one somewhere. Built-in pieces are made to fit them.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Materials and finishes
Birch plywood
A home office shelf often carries heavy books and folders. We use birch plywood for shelves that carry a load. Long spans need a thicker shelf, a lip or a support.
Shelves
Shelves in a home office carry books, files and folders. How far a shelf spans and what it holds both count. Each shelf is made to stay straight under what you plan to store.
What it costs
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- How square the room is
- The width and height of the space
- The internal fittings
We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, use our contact form.
What we need to know
To give us a picture of the room, it’s useful to include:
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
To make a start, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.
What we do not do
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:
- New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
- Converting a loft to make room for an office
- Changes to the structure of the house
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

How fitting day works
You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether brick, block, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- It starts with a short note from you about the space.
- At the design visit we plan the office and measure the route in: stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways. It’s useful to tell us about parking, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- We send a written quote.
- The desk and shelving are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route.
- We carry the sections in, assemble them in the room and fit them, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Keep pets in another room while we work
How to get a quote
The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To book one, fill in our short enquiry form.
Advice
Fitted home offices in Tottenham: local notes
In the streets around Tottenham, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 39%) and the years since 2000 (about 19%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. The National Heritage List has 46 entries within half a mile of the centre of Tottenham. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and home offices can be designed to work around them. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your street in Tottenham joins a main road, it’s worth telling us during the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
For an older house near Church of St Mary the Virgin, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk. Living in a block of flats near Bruce Grove station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. The wider area includes historic houses such as Bruce Castle, about 0.3 miles west. If your own home is a period one, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.

Your questions about fitted home offices in Tottenham
Is parking a problem for fitting in Tottenham?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
I live in a flat in Tottenham. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Should I send pictures?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
Do you wire in sockets for the home office?
That is work for your electrician. We plan the furniture around them, with cable routes through the desk and units. They can then be fitted where we’ve allowed for them.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
