TV and media units in Tottenham
Sockets often need to move for a built-in TV wall, behind the screen or inside a cupboard. That job is for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes falls under Part P of the Building Regulations. Ideally it’s done before the unit goes in so the sockets land in the right place. People normally come to us about empty alcoves beside the TV and bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Some living rooms in London have tall ceilings and cornices, while others have low, plain ceilings. However your room in Tottenham is built, the height is measured as carefully as the width, because it decides how tall TV and media units can go. Each section is sized to fit the route into the room.
We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

Questions we are often asked
I live in a flat in Tottenham. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. TV and media units are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Tottenham?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.
Do TV units need ventilation?
Media equipment runs warm and needs airflow. The unit is planned with open backs or gaps where boxes go. Once it is in, do not block the gaps.
Who moves the sockets for a built-in TV wall?
Your electrician does that. Ideally it’s done before fitting, and we plan cut-outs and cable routes around the sockets.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Why bespoke in Tottenham?
An off-the-shelf TV stand is cheaper and quick to buy. It is also easy to replace a stand when your equipment changes, which is a fair point in its favour. Bespoke units are made for one wall and the things you use. Gaps behind, beside and above ready-made furniture collect dust, while fitted pieces are scribed tight to the walls and ceiling, which makes cleaning simpler.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

What affects the price in Tottenham
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- Parking near your home
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Before the design visit
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- How you want to use the space
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, message us from the contact page. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

How fitting day works
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it sits neatly against the room. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Before fitting day, we check the route in along with the room itself, so TV and media units arrive in sections that fit through. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
- We visit to measure and talk through the design and how the unit should look in the room.
- A quote in writing follows, with the finish set out.
- The unit is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which takes paint well, and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied once it is in and is easy to touch up later. Go gently with new paintwork while it cures.
How to prepare
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
Getting a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

How it is made
Moisture-resistant MDF
Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well, so we use it for panels, doors and the faces you see.
Spray-painted finish
Spraying coats edges and corners evenly and leaves no brush marks. You choose the colour at the design stage.
Practical tips
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Think about whether you want the screen on a bracket or on a shelf
- Think about which things need to be seen by a remote
- Find out how much space each box needs around it
- Check where the seating will go
Dust collects around equipment and vents, so a quick clean now and then helps. Clear vents keep equipment cooler.
Don’t stack boxes on top of each other in one space because heat builds up between them. Give each its own space.
Built-in living-room furniture in Tottenham
About 39% of the homes in the streets around Tottenham went up before 1919, and about 19% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Tottenham is partly covered by the North Tottenham High Road, Tottenham High Road Hist Corr Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Haringey included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Tottenham. We go through parking and access at the measuring visit.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Bruce Castle, about 0.3 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. For a flat near Bruce Grove station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If you live in a period home close to Church of St Mary the Virgin, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.
