Fitted cupboards in Wandsworth
Our fitted cupboards are made for homes in Wandsworth and all over London. It starts with a design visit, where we measure and talk through what you need, followed by a quote in writing. Once agreed, we make the cupboards in our workshop and fit them in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you will know before we start. If you’re living with hiding meters and a fuse board neatly and storage in a corner nothing else fits, that is what fitted cupboards are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
A large share of the homes around Wandsworth were built before 1919, and older houses have lots of odd corners: under the stairs, in the bay, along the hall and under the eaves of a converted loft. Fitted storage is designed to make those spaces useful.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

From workshop to your room
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Hand painting, if that’s your finish, can follow the fitting.
- We start with a short note from you about the space and what it needs to hold. It might be a hallway, a landing, a utility or a boot room.
- We visit, take careful measurements and go through the design with you.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
- The cupboards are built in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The cupboards are fitted in your home and trimmed to follow the walls.

How it is made
Shelves
A shelf that sags looks tired quickly with the right thickness, lip or support.
Doors and drawer fronts
We make doors in a style that suits the room, painted to match the cupboard. Drawers below the doors suit shoes and small items.
Tips worth knowing
These points come up often when people plan fitted cupboards. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:
- Keep boiler vents and meter access clear
- Check stairs, landings and doorways for access
- Give the paint time to cure fully
- Think about what each cupboard will hold
We adjust the doors as part of the fitting. Timber and walls shift slightly through the year, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even. A door that starts to rub can normally be set right at the hinge.
If there is damp on a wall, have it sorted before we fit. A cupboard on a damp wall can trap moisture, and external walls can be colder than internal ones. We can allow for ventilation where it is needed.
Storage in Wandsworth homes: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 49% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Wandsworth, with about 27% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 8 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Wandsworth. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home is on or just off a main road, it’s useful to mention it. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
For families living near St Anne's CofE Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. For a flat near Wandsworth Town station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. Fulham Palace, about 1.5 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way.
Wandsworth is about 1 mile north-east of Clapham Junction, in the London Borough of Wandsworth. We can visit homes in Wandsworth on weekdays, or on a Saturday by arrangement. We cover places right across the rest of London, large and small.

If you are just outside Wandsworth, we also cover Southfields (1 mile south), Earlsfield (1 mile south), Hurlingham (1 mile north), Clapham Junction (1 mile north-east) and Battersea (1 mile north-east). We also make fitted cupboards in nearby places such as Tooting (2 miles south-east), Tooting Bec (2 miles south-east), Balham (2 miles south-east), Furzedown (3 miles south-east), Streatham Park (3 miles south-east) and Roehampton (2 miles west).

Questions we’re often asked
I live in a flat in Wandsworth. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
My home in Wandsworth is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Can a fitted cupboard cover the meters and fuse board?
Yes. A cupboard can tidy them away and still leaves them reachable. We do not move meters or fuse boards; that’s for your supplier or an electrician.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
There’s a place for both. For a square alcove and a tight budget, a ready-made unit may do the job. Where the room is awkward, the walls are uneven or you want the cupboard to look built in, fitted joinery is usually the better answer. Tall ceilings in older homes leave a band of empty wall above standard furniture, and that space collects dust instead of storage. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
