Fitted wardrobes designed for your room
What fitted wardrobes cannot fix
We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
- Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.
What goes into it
- Birch plywood
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Spray-painted finish
- Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
- Hand-painted finish
- Hinged or sliding doors
How we make fitted wardrobes for Wandsworth
Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We also think about who uses it, so the top rail is within comfortable reach. If you’re living with gaps above and around standalone wardrobes and musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
With a large share of homes around Wandsworth built before 1919, plenty of bedrooms have solid brick external walls. Cold external walls can lead to condensation, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture is part of the design. Smaller back bedrooms in houses of that age are good places for fitted wardrobes.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Is bespoke worth it?
Walls and floors in older homes are seldom straight or level. Standalone wardrobes may lean or leave uneven gaps against the wall. Ours are levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls. Ready-made tall pieces have to be fixed to the wall for safety, and older walls of brick or lath and plaster make that harder than it looks. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Why us?
- A design visit, then a quote in writing
- Built around your room
- Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

Bedrooms in Wandsworth: local notes
In the streets around Wandsworth, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 49%) and the years since 2000 (about 27%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. 8 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Wandsworth. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. About 49% of homes in the streets around Wandsworth were built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths, scribed to walls that aren’t straight.
If you live near King George's Park, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window. For an older house near St Anne's Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Anne, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next, one at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- You get in touch with a few details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
- You receive a quote in writing for the wardrobes.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
Preparing the room
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Tell us about parking near your home
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Starting with a design visit
Getting a quote starts with a few details: the room, rough sizes and some pictures if you have them. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Could you do it yourself?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Boards, parts and paint
Birch plywood
Drawers get heavy use, so we often make the boxes from birch plywood, so they hold their shape.
Doors and drawer fronts
Hinged doors suit rooms with space in front. In a narrow room, sliding doors save space.
FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Wandsworth
Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Wandsworth?
Yes, Wandsworth is within the area we cover, which takes in all of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Wandsworth?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.
Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, keeping hanging space at the tall end and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns awkward space into storage.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
What happens at the design visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too.
How long does it take to fit wardrobes?
The fitting depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The making happens in our workshop.
