West Silvertown Fitted Cupboards

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted cupboards for homes in West Silvertown, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Storage for coats and shoes in the hallway

How we make fitted cupboards for West Silvertown

We build each fitted cupboard for the space it will live in. It runs from the floor to the ceiling, or to whatever height suits the spot, and it follows the walls rather than leaving gaps around them. We fit them in hallways, on landings, in utility and boot rooms and in alcoves. The inside is planned around what you need to keep there. If your home has cupboards that suit a period house and hiding meters and a fuse board neatly, fitted cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

A large number of homes around West Silvertown date from 2000 onwards, and newer homes rarely come with much storage. Fitted storage can turn a hallway recess, a landing or the space under the stairs into somewhere useful. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on timber or metal studs, so the fixings are chosen for that.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t normally do that in an older room.

How fitting day works

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer blocks often have concierge desks, entry systems and rules on lift booking, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Fitted cupboards are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.

  1. First, you tell us about the space and what you need to store.
  2. We visit, take careful measurements and go through the design with you. For a boiler cupboard, we plan for the clearances and ventilation in the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the design, the materials and the finish, for you to read through.
  4. We make the carcasses, doors and shelves in our workshop.
  5. We bring the cupboards to your home and fit them to the space.

Preparing the room

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Arranging a design visit

If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

Shelves

Sagging shelves are avoidable, so we size each one for its span and load.

Moisture-resistant MDF

A painted MDF door has a clean, even look, and the moisture-resistant grade copes with damper spots.

How we price fitted cupboards

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Parking near your home
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.

What we need to know

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Flat-pack cupboards can be put together quickly by a confident DIYer, and that is a real advantage. A fitted cupboard needs a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, but it’s built around your space. Off-the-shelf depths can crowd a compact new-build room, whereas fitted pieces can be as shallow as the space needs. It still uses the full height.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, then set it out in the quote.

Why choose us

  • Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Work across the whole of London
  • Built around your room

Questions from West Silvertown

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in West Silvertown?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Do you cover homes near Custom House station?

Yes, homes across Newham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.

How long will the cupboards take to fit?

It depends on the job. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you will know before we start.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

Getting it in is planned at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
