About our fitted cupboards in Stonebridge
The carcasses and doors are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, depending on what each part needs to do. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits shelves and drawer boxes. We finish them by spray painting in the workshop or by hand painting, in the colour you choose. People usually come to us about a hallway cupboard for coats and shoes and boxing in a boiler with room for servicing; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
A large number of homes around Stonebridge date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats in newer developments. Where a boiler or cylinder sits in a cupboard, the design keeps the clearances its maker sets out. Shallow cupboards suit narrow halls, so the hallway still feels open.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Questions we’re often asked
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Stonebridge?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Harlesden station?
Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you fit cupboards to walls that aren’t straight?
Yes, it is something we deal with all the time. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so we scribe and level every cupboard.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. Your lease is something we can’t advise on.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Stonebridge homes and fitted cupboards
Homes built since 2000 make up about 36% of the housing in the area around Stonebridge, with about 28% built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted cupboards are fixed and fitted. Stonebridge is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. Purpose-built flats are more common around Stonebridge than across Brent: about 53% of households, against about 38%, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. So the route in, from stairs to lifts, is part of the design.
Living in a block of flats near Harlesden station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If your children go to The Stonebridge School or a school nearby, fitted cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. The wider area includes historic houses such as Pitzhanger Manor, about 2.8 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, fitted cupboards can fill recesses that are rarely a standard size.

Why bespoke in Stonebridge?
Off-the-shelf cupboards are quicker to get and usually cost less, and in a square room they can work well. Where walls lean and floors slope, they rarely sit flush. A fitted cupboard costs more but follows the room. Large off-the-shelf pieces can make a small room feel smaller, while fitted furniture, painted in a colour that suits the walls, reads as part of the room.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

How fitting day works
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer blocks often have concierge desks, entry systems and rules on lift booking, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. The furniture is built in sections that fit the lift and doorways.
- You let us know where the cupboards should go and what they need to hold.
- At the design visit we measure up and look at the walls, floor and ceiling. Doors, shelves and rails are agreed then too.
- We send a quote in writing with the design, materials and finish.
- The cupboards are made and finished in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the cupboards are fitted and trimmed to the room.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about parking near your home
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

What it is made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF gives a smooth surface for a painted finish, and the moisture-resistant grade copes with damper spots.
Spray-painted finish
We spray paint in the workshop for a smooth, factory-like finish. You choose the colour.
Practical tips
A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:
- Do not store things against the boiler
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Check stairs, landings and doorways for access
- Tell us about meters and boilers in the space
Meter and fuse board cupboards work best when they stay easy to open. Avoid packing things in front of the meters, so engineers and meter readers can get to them quickly.
At the design visit, let us know how parking and access work. Much of London has controlled parking and some blocks need lifts or deliveries booked ahead.
