Our fitted wardrobes across Barking and Dagenham

An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, and a wardrobe packed against one can trap moist air. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. Most enquiries start with clothes with nowhere proper to go and wasted space beside the chimney breast; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
  2. At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn. Tell us about parking as well, as a van usually needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the wardrobes.
  4. The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

How our quotes work

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Getting a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a written quote.

Fitted wardrobes for homes across Barking and Dagenham

Across Barking and Dagenham, including Barking, Dagenham and Becontree, bedrooms come in every size. Each design uses the room’s own widths and height. The inside layout is planned around your things.

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 50% of the housing in Barking and Dagenham, with about 20% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. More than a third of the homes in Barking and Dagenham (about 50%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. About 42% of households in Barking and Dagenham live in terraced houses, the 2021 Census shows. London terraces normally have a small back bedroom and alcoves in the main bedroom, both good spaces for fitted storage.

Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, Barking and Dagenham included. Wherever you are, the job starts with a design visit.

Barking: The wider area includes historic houses such as Eastbury Manor House, about 0.1 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. For an older house near St Patrick's Church, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Barking and Dagenham

An awkward room is another reason. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in tricky spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.

Requests we hear often include:

  • A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
  • Wardrobes that are full to bursting
  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes

Where other trades come in

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Decorating or plastering the room
  • Building work to create a loft room
  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist

Flats, leases and landlords

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the design visit.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit.

Pricing fitted wardrobes in Barking and Dagenham

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • Parking near your home
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Helping us understand the room

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • How you want to use the space

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To book one, fill in our short enquiry form.

What it is made from

Spray-painted finish

A sprayed coat covers edges, corners and panels evenly and leaves no brush marks. The colour is agreed at the design stage.

Hanging rails

Long rails need support so they do not bend under heavy coats. Rail lengths are planned so they stay straight.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Do you do the electrics?

No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?

Yes, with ventilation planned in. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe, which helps avoid condensation.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.

Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?

Yes. Building around the bed uses a wall that often goes unused and can include bedside shelves. The bed size and room are measured when we visit.

How do I get started?

The first step is to use our contact form and let us know about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a written quote.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.

How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish. The price comes in a written quote after the design visit.
