Questions from Barking

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Barking?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Do you cover homes near Barking station?

Yes, homes across Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?

The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. That’s why we measure the route, not just the room. If you are in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.

Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?

It’s common, and it’s allowed for. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls.

Can I choose the layout inside the wardrobe?

The inside is planned around your clothes. It can include long and double hanging, shelves, drawers and space for shoes, in the proportions you need. We plan it with you when we visit.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.

How we make fitted wardrobes for Barking

Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while two rails, one over the other, suit shirts and jackets. We plan for the people using it too. Typical reasons to get in touch are an awkward slope in a loft bedroom and too little room for clothes, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Many homes around Barking were built since 2000, and a newer bedroom seldom comes with storage that fits how you live. Fitted wardrobes can be designed around the window, the radiator and the door swing, so the room still works. In a managed block, the lift and delivery rules are worth checking before fitting day.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

How fitting day works

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Door frames and corners get covers too. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.

  1. You contact us about fitted wardrobes.
  2. We come to measure and talk through the design, including the doors and the finish.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and ceiling; a hand-painted finish is done on site.
  6. At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

How it is made

Birch plywood

Drawers get heavy use, so we often make the boxes from birch plywood.

Spray-painted finish

Because the doors are sprayed before fitting, they arrive already finished. Give the paint time to cure fully.

Pricing fitted wardrobes in Barking

What you pay depends on:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The internal fittings

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. It helps to talk about parking at the measuring visit.

What to send when you get in touch

Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check during the design visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

Bedroom storage in Barking

Homes built since 2000 make up about 39% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Barking, with about 28% built between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. There are 5 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Barking. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Barking and Dagenham sets its own rules. If your street in Barking is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay through the council may be needed. We ask about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

If you live near Mayesbrook Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. For families living near Eastbury Primary School, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. Near listed buildings like Eastbury Manor House, under half a mile east of the centre of Barking, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
