Fitted Wardrobes in Rush Green

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on fitted wardrobes in Rush Green starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

  • Clothes with nowhere proper to go
  • No space in front for doors to swing
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

Fitting day, step by step

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the bedroom.
  2. We visit to measure the room and discuss the design. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish, so you can see what’s included.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Preparing the room

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

How to get a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

How we make fitted wardrobes for Rush Green

We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. If your home has a tight bedroom where doors get in the way and too little room for clothes, fitted wardrobes made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

Around Rush Green, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. Many 1930s houses have a small box room over the stairs, often with a raised bulkhead in the floor, and the bulkhead is built around rather than ignored. Main bedrooms from that era are often a good size, with a bay window at the front.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Why bespoke in Rush Green?

Off-the-shelf wardrobes come in standard heights and widths, so there’s typically a gap on top and at the ends. A fitted wardrobe runs to the ceiling and the walls, so the space is used and there is nowhere for dust to collect on top. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve

Others simply want the room to feel calmer. A run of painted doors from wall to wall looks quieter than several separate pieces and keeps everything out of sight.

People normally get in touch with us about needs like these:

  • A bedroom that never feels tidy
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
  • A tight bedroom where doors get in the way

For a flat near Romford station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home

What fitted wardrobes cannot fix

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
  • Building work to create a loft room

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Rush Green

Is Rush Green in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?

Yes, Rush Green is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Do you cover homes near Romford station?

Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?

We plan the sections around the route into your flat. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.

Is it possible to build wardrobes into a loft room with a slope?

Yes. Sloping ceilings are common in loft conversions, and fitted wardrobes are one of the best ways to use them. We measure the slope carefully at the measuring visit and scribe the wardrobe to it.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough sizes. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.

Is it possible to have storage over the bed?

Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. It is planned so there is room around the bed and the room does not feel enclosed.

Caring for painted furniture

These points come up often when people plan fitted wardrobes. They help whatever the room:

  • Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
  • Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall ahead of time
  • Check the route into your flat, not just the room
  • Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat

Leave a little space between clothes and the back of the wardrobe, especially on an external wall. Air moving through helps avoid condensation and mould.

Now and then, check that handles and hinges are tight.
