Fitted wardrobes in Bedfont, Hounslow

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on fitted wardrobes in Bedfont starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • Clothes with nowhere proper to go
  • Wardrobes that are full to bursting
  • Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall

Fitted wardrobes for your home in Bedfont

How we make fitted wardrobes for Bedfont

Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with tall cupboards either side and storage bridging over the headboard. Others work around a window. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. If your home has bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes and a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use, fitted wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Wide windows with a radiator below are common in homes from the 1950s and 1960s, which leaves the other walls for storage. Many homes around Bedfont were built in the post-war decades, so we expect to plan around a radiator. Nothing is built tight over the radiator, so it keeps heating the room.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve

For some, it is about a calmer room. A single run of painted doors looks tidier than mixed furniture, and everything has a place behind it.

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:

  • Not enough hanging space
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
  • A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use

Living in a block of flats near Heathrow Terminal 4 Rail station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Whether you will get a quote in writing, not just a figure
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?

Bedrooms in Bedfont: local notes

In the streets around Bedfont, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 35%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 26%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Bedfont, Historic England’s list includes Fawns Manor (Grade II), less than half a mile south, and Church of St Mary (Grade II), less than half a mile north. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Hounslow sets its own rules. If your road in Bedfont falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what the parking is like at the measuring visit.

For families living near Fairholme Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. For an older house near Church of St Mary, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

What happens on fitting day

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Parking near post-war estates can depend on residents’ bays and estate rules, so it helps to tell us during the design visit. Fitting day is the sections coming in, being joined and fixed in place. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You contact us about fitted wardrobes.
  2. We come to measure and discuss the design, including the doors and the finish.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.

Before fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Starting with a design visit

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.

When you need someone else

  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
  • Structural changes to the room

Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll tell you. How a job runs, step by step.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Is parking a problem for fitting in Bedfont?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Bedfont?

Yes, we work across Hounslow, Bedfont included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?

Yes, as long as it’s ventilated. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe.

How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?

The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.

Can I choose the layout inside the wardrobe?

The inside is planned around your clothes. It can include long and double hanging, shelves, drawers and space for shoes, in the proportions you need. We talk it through at the measuring visit.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

Caring for painted furniture

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
  • Work out the split between long and short hanging
  • Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
  • Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall ahead of time

Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that’s barely damp. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners, which can mark the finish.

Spread heavy items rather than piling them in one place. Rails and shelves are planned for normal use.
