Isleworth Fitted Wardrobes

Floor-to-ceiling wardrobes built to the shape of your bedroom, designed for your room in Isleworth. We measure, design and quote first, then make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • An awkward slope in a loft bedroom

Looking after your furniture

These points come up often when people plan fitted wardrobes. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:

  • Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall in advance
  • For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
  • Ask your electrician about moving sockets early

Hang clothes evenly along each rail rather than packing one end. Heavy coats are best on a short rail or near a support.

Do not overload a single rail or shelf. Shelves and rails are sized for everyday loads, so tell us during the design visit if you need to store something heavy.

Fitted wardrobes in Isleworth

Rail heights are set for the clothes they hold. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We also think about who uses it, so the top rail is within comfortable reach. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are not enough hanging space and damp or musty clothes against an external wall.

Where housing is mixed, as in much of London, bedrooms range from box rooms to large rooms with bays and sloping ceilings. Fitted wardrobes can work in any of them, from a small spare room to a main bedroom. Every wall in Isleworth homes is measured on site, because none is assumed to be square.

Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

From workshop to your room

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; for a house, steps, paths and parking are the things to mention. We plan the details of the day at the measuring visit. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You tell us about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows.
  2. We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers.
  3. We put the design, materials and finish into a written quote.
  4. Once you’re happy, the wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, ready to use.

Before fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Empty the space we will be working in
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Advice

Bedrooms in Isleworth: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Isleworth were built between 1973 and 1999 (about 34%) and since 2000 (about 22%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The National Heritage List has 46 entries within half a mile of the centre of Isleworth. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and fitted wardrobes can be designed to work around them. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Hounslow sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

Near listed buildings like Syon Park Boathouse the Pavilion, about 0.5 miles east of the centre of Isleworth, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. Close to Old Deer Park? Fitted wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of All Saints, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

How it is made

Hanging rails

We keep the top rail at a height you can reach. Higher space above can hold shelves for things you use less.

Moisture-resistant MDF

Wardrobe doors are large, so stability matters. MDF stays flat and gives a smooth surface for painting, for plain or panelled doors alike.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it during the design visit.

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Isleworth

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

I live near Isleworth station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?

Uneven floors are normal in older homes. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth and the doors line up.

Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?

The space in front of the wardrobe usually decides it. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We’ll look at the room with you during the design visit.

What happens when you come to measure?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
