Hounslow Fitted Wardrobes

Planning fitted wardrobes for a home in Hounslow? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing, before anything is made.

  • Clothes with nowhere proper to go
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • Standard wardrobes that do not fill the wall

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

How we make fitted wardrobes for Hounslow

What goes inside is where a fitted wardrobe earns its place. We plan the mix of long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers around your clothes, so coats and dresses have room and shirts don’t waste height. It is worth noting the clothes you reach for most before the design visit. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are dusty space on top of the wardrobe and a tight bedroom where doors get in the way.

Where housing is mixed, as in much of London, bedrooms range from box rooms to large rooms with bays and sloping ceilings. Fitted furniture can suit each, sized and laid out for the room. Every wall in Hounslow homes is measured on site, because none is assumed to be square.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Hounslow homes and fitted wardrobes

Homes built since 2000 make up about 30% of the housing in the area around Hounslow, with about 27% built between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. There are 6 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Hounslow. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so the rest of London is inside it. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Hounslow is covered by it. How the van gets to your door is planned at the design visit.

If you live in a period home close to Church of St Mary the Virgin, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. Near listed buildings like Worton Hall, under half a mile south-east of the centre of Hounslow, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. The wider area includes historic houses like Osterley House, about 1.6 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

From workshop to your room

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift not just the room, so fitted wardrobes arrive in sections that fit through. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. It starts when you tell us about the room, the floor it is on and the wardrobes you want.
  2. We visit to measure the room and talk through the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too.
  3. A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Starting with a design visit

A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you are ready, send us a few details through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Hand-painted finish

With hand painting, you see the colour in your own room’s light as it goes on. Scribed edges and joins are painted along with the rest.

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF in a moisture-resistant grade is stable and paints evenly, which makes it ideal for wardrobe doors and visible panels. It is a sensible choice against a colder external wall.

Questions we’re often asked

Is parking a problem for fitting in Hounslow?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hounslow station?

Yes. We cover the whole of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can I choose the layout inside the wardrobe?

We plan it with you at the design visit, based on what you wear and how much of it there is. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you use our contact form.

Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?

The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.

Before and after fitting day

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
  • Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
  • Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
  • Ask your electrician about moving sockets early

Once clothes go in and the wardrobes are in daily use, doors may settle slightly. Most hinges can be adjusted to bring a door back in line.

Do not dry washing inside a wardrobe or in the bedroom with the doors shut. Opening a window now and then helps.

What affects the price in Hounslow

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • How big the furniture is
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What we need to know

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
