Homes built before 1919 make up about 56% of the housing in the streets around Bounds Green, with about 15% built between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Bounds Green, Historic England’s list includes St Leonard's House (judge Fuller's Almshouses) (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-east, and Porters and Walters Almshouses (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-east. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 23% of households in the neighbourhood around Bounds Green, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.

Bruce Castle, about 2.2 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If you live near O. R. Tambo Recreation Ground, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. For an older house near St Barnabas Greek Orthodox Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

About our fitted wardrobes in Bounds Green

We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in a colour agreed with you. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about storage boxes stacked under the bed and mismatched bedroom furniture.

Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of homes around Bounds Green are that old. Fitted furniture can run right up to the ceiling or the cornice, with high storage for the things you use least. Original mouldings are worked around rather than removed, so the furniture suits the house.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standalone wardrobes cost less to buy and can come with you when you move. If you are renting or moving soon, that may matter most. Built-in wardrobes become part of the house and are made for that room alone. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it cannot tip, and in an older house that can mean fixing into brick or lath and plaster. With fitted pieces, the fixings are planned for the wall from the start.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.

Flats, leases and landlords

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it during the design visit.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.

What fitted wardrobes cannot fix

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:

  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
  • Redecorating around the wardrobes
  • Treating damp or mould on the walls

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Bounds Green

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Bounds Green?

Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London, and Bounds Green is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?

It depends on the room. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing. We will help you weigh them up when we visit.

Can you build wardrobes around a bed?

Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. It’s planned so there is room around the bed and the room does not feel enclosed.

How is the price worked out?

Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it, along with access and parking. The price comes in a written quote after the design visit.

How do I get a quote?

The first step is to get in touch through our contact form and let us know about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Hand painting, if that is your finish, can follow the fitting.

  1. You let us know about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout, with your clothes in mind.
  3. A written quote follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
  4. We then make the wardrobes in our workshop.
  5. We bring them to your home and fit them in place.

Before fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

When is bespoke worth it?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
