Fitted home offices for your home in Bounds Green
Flat-pack or bespoke?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
Fitted home offices for homes in Bounds Green
The desk is the heart of a home office. We make it to a height and depth that suit you, your chair and your screen, with drawers or cupboards beneath where they’re useful. Shelves and cupboards can be planned around it. The design visit in Bounds Green is where these choices are made. We make home offices from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a guest room that’s needed for work and wires with no tidy route.
With a large share of homes around Bounds Green built before 1919, the spare room in a period house is often small, with a sash window and a chimney breast. Home offices can make that room work, with the desk under the window or across an alcove. Cable routes are planned so they run neatly to the sockets, and any new sockets are for your electrician.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What happens on fitting day
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed during the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.
- First we hear about your work and the room you have in mind, whether that’s a spare room, an alcove or a landing.
- At the design visit, the room is measured and the layout planned. Cable routes are planned at this point.
- We agree the desk, shelving and storage, and send a written quote, with the finish set out.
- Every part is built in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
- The office is fitted, scribed to the walls and checked with you. The cable routes are left ready to use.
Preparing the room
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
Starting with a design visit
It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Working from home in Bounds Green
In the neighbourhood around Bounds Green, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 56%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 15%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your street in Bounds Green joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the measuring visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
If your children go to Bounds Green Infant School or a school nearby, a desk long enough for two can serve a laptop and a homework book side by side. If you live in a flat close to Bowes Park station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If your home is one of the older houses near St Barnabas Greek Orthodox Church, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.

What it costs
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:
- The overall size of the piece
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- How many doors and drawers there are
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.
Before the design visit
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- Approximate measurements of the space
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
Looking after your furniture
Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Estimate the shelf space you’ll need
- Mention any parking rules on your street
- Decide how much should be open shelving and how much behind doors
- Choose a calm colour for a working room
Load shelves evenly, with heavier books and files at the ends near the supports. It helps shelves stay straight. We size them for what you told us you’d store.
Keep the chair from knocking the desk edge. Ease the chair in rather than pushing it hard. Small chips on a hand-painted finish are easy to touch in.
Honest limits
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Changes to the structure of the house
- Electrical work for the office, which your electrician carries out
- Setting up computers, screens or networks

FAQs: fitted home offices in Bounds Green
Can you fit fitted home offices to the uneven walls of an older house in Bounds Green?
Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
I live near Bowes Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can you build a home office in an alcove?
Often, yes. An alcove beside a chimney breast can take a desk with shelves above. It is scribed to the alcove walls so it fits closely. We will check the size at the design visit.
Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?
Yes, where the loft has already been converted. We place the desk so you can sit and stand without hitting the slope, with storage built into the lower parts of the slope. We do not carry out loft conversions.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Can you add power points to the desk?
That’s work for your electrician. We plan the furniture around them, with cable routes through the desk and units. Your electrician can then fit them as planned.
