Fitted Wardrobes in Broadwater Farm

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on fitted wardrobes in Broadwater Farm starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.

  • Standard wardrobes that do not fill the wall
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • A bedroom that never feels tidy

Fitted wardrobes designed for your room

Fitted wardrobes in Broadwater Farm

A fitted wardrobe is built into the room itself, running floor to ceiling and wall to wall where that suits the room. There is no dusty gap on top and no tricky space at the ends. If you are planning fitted wardrobes in Broadwater Farm, the first step is a design visit to measure up and go through the design. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about empty alcoves in the bedroom and an awkward slope in a loft bedroom.

Older bedrooms normally have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around Broadwater Farm date from then. Fitted furniture can run right up to the ceiling or the cornice, with high storage for the things you use least. Original mouldings are worked around rather than removed.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

What happens on fitting day

At the end, we tidy up. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that are not straight, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so tell us about permits and bays at the design visit.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
  2. We visit to measure the room and discuss the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too. Let us know about parking as well, as a van normally needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
  3. A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
  5. Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.

How to prepare

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area

How to get a quote

To get a quote, use our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and a quote in writing follows.

Bedrooms in Broadwater Farm: local notes

In the area around Broadwater Farm, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 48%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 19%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Broadwater Farm include Tower to South West of Bruce Castle (Grade I), under half a mile north-east, and All Hallows Vicarage the Priory (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-east. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Haringey are set locally. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

The wider area includes historic houses like Bruce Castle, about 0.4 miles north-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If you live in a period home close to St Philip the Apostle, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Broadwater Farm

Does a conservation area in or near Broadwater Farm affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Broadwater Farm?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.

How do I get started?

It is easiest to tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

When you need someone else

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Materials and parts

  • Birch plywood
  • Hinged or sliding doors
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers

Practical tips

Getting the most from fitted wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
  • Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
  • List the things that won’t hang, like jumpers and shoes
  • Empty the area where we’ll be working

Hang clothes evenly along each rail rather than packing one end. Very heavy coats sit best on a shorter rail.

Do not dry washing inside a wardrobe or in the bedroom with the doors shut, as the extra moisture can lead to condensation. Opening a window now and then helps.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve

A move is a common trigger. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom, or may not make it up the stairs. Fitted wardrobes are designed for the room you have now.

Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:

  • Storage boxes stacked under the bed
  • An awkward slope in a loft bedroom
  • Too little room for clothes
  • Standard wardrobes that do not fill the wall

If you live near Bruce Castle Park, fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
