Materials and finishes
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, so it is a good choice for carcasses, shelves and drawer boxes. You can paint the edge or leave the layers showing.
Hanging rails
We keep the top rail at a height you can reach without a step. Shelves above the rails hold things used less often.
Fitted wardrobes for homes in Finsbury Park
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, and clothes pressed against a cold wall can lead to condensation. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it to help avoid condensation and mould. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. We make fitted wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are dusty space on top of the wardrobe and bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes.
With a large share of homes around Finsbury Park built before 1919, many bedrooms sit against solid brick external walls. Those walls can be colder than internal ones, so wardrobes and storage on them are designed with ventilation behind and inside to help avoid condensation. Small back bedrooms and box rooms are common too, and they suit fitted wardrobes and other fitted storage well.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Why bespoke in Finsbury Park?
Bought wardrobes are made in set sizes, which leaves gaps above and beside them. A fitted wardrobe runs to the ceiling and the walls. Alcoves and recesses in period houses are rarely a standard width or depth, so ready-made units rarely fill them properly. Furniture made for the space fills it.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

What affects the price in Finsbury Park
The price for your room depends on:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- How big the furniture is
- Parking near your home
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
What we need to know
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it helps to send:

- How you want to use the space
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

Questions we’re often asked
Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Finsbury Park?
Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London, and Finsbury Park is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Do you cover homes near Finsbury Park station?
Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough sizes. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form.
Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?
Yes, as long as it’s ventilated. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we plan airflow behind and within it, which helps avoid condensation.
Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?
Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing, while sliding doors save space but only open part of the wardrobe at a time. We’ll help you weigh them up when we visit.
From workshop to your room
Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that aren’t straight, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. Floors are protected, and dust is kept down as far as possible. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so let us know about permits and bays during the design visit.

Caring for painted furniture
A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:
- Check the route into your flat, not just the room
- Empty the area where we will be working
- Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
- Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
Once clothes go in and the wardrobes are in daily use, doors may settle slightly. Most hinges can be adjusted to bring a door back in line.
Avoid drying clothes in the bedroom where you can because damp air ends up in the wardrobes. A little ventilation in the room helps.
