Fitted wardrobes in Chinbrook, Lewisham

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Chinbrook, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A tight bedroom where doors get in the way
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • Not enough hanging space

How we make fitted wardrobes for Chinbrook

You can choose hinged or sliding doors. Hinged doors open a whole section at once, but they need clear space in front to swing. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. We weigh them up with you at the design visit. If you are living with storage boxes stacked under the bed and a tight bedroom where doors get in the way, fitted wardrobes made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Chinbrook, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. Small rooms like that suit fitted wardrobes, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.

The furniture is built in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What affects the price in Chinbrook

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • How square the room is
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What to send when you contact us

When you contact us, these help most:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What the furniture needs to hold

To get a quote, message us from the contact page and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and a quote in writing follows.

When is bespoke worth it?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Questions we are often asked

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Grove Park station?

Yes, homes across Lewisham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room.

Is Chinbrook in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?

Yes, we work across Lewisham, Chinbrook included, and across the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it is worth checking the lease first.

What happens when you come to measure?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a written quote.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it helps to be around at the end.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the design visit.

How fitting day works

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
  2. At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn. Let us know about parking as well, as a van usually needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
  3. A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

How to prepare

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

How to get a quote

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Chinbrook

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 48% of the housing in the area around Chinbrook, with about 26% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Chinbrook include Baring Hall Hotel and associated stable block (Grade II), about 0.5 miles west, and The Grange Eltham College Junior School (Grade II), about 0.6 miles north. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling may need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 41% of households around Chinbrook live in terraced houses, well above the figure for Lewisham as a whole, about 26%, according to Census 2021. Narrow halls and stairs in terraces mean the furniture comes in sections.

If your home is one of the older houses near Jubilee International Church, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Eltham Palace, about 1.3 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Chinbrook is part of the London Borough of Lewisham, about 4 miles north-west of New Cross. From period terraces to newer flats in Chinbrook, we measure the room as it is and design around it. Our work takes in places right across Lewisham, large and small.

Every home in SE9, SE12 and BR1 is within our area for fitted wardrobes. Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Chinbrook

Couples often want storage that works for two. A fitted wardrobe can be planned with separate sections.

Here’s what fitted wardrobes can help with:

  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • Storage boxes stacked under the bed
  • Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall

If you live near Chinbrook Meadows, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
