What affects the price in New Cross
Several things affect the price:
- The width and height of the space
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Parking and unloading on your street
- How many doors and drawers there are
We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.
What we need to know
There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It is enough to send:
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, use our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.
About our fitted wardrobes in New Cross
In a period bedroom, the alcoves beside the chimney breast make natural wardrobe spaces. Wardrobes in both alcoves leave the chimney breast on show, scribed to follow the uneven walls. Picture rails and cornices can be met neatly or cut around. If you are living with storage boxes stacked under the bed and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes, fitted wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
If your bedroom is in a period house, expect uneven walls and tall ceilings; in a newer flat, expect plasterboard and a lower ceiling. A home in New Cross might be either, or neither. Each is measured and fitted in its own way. Ceiling height sets how tall the furniture can go.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

When is bespoke worth it?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
When you need someone else
We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- Redecorating around the wardrobes
- Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in New Cross
About 43% of the homes in the streets around New Cross went up before 1919, and about 19% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of New Cross include Public Library (Grade II), less than half a mile east, and Goldsmiths College Chapel (Grade II), less than half a mile north-west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. More than a third of the homes in the area around New Cross (about 43%) were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Older bedrooms normally have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use, scribed to walls that aren’t straight.
If you live near Fordham Park, fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. Living in a block of flats near New Cross station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If your children go to Myatt Garden Primary School or a school nearby, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in New Cross?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Does a conservation area in or near New Cross affect fitted furniture?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.
What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?
It is worked out with you when we measure, based on what you wear and how much of it there is. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.
How long will the fitting take?
The fitting depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.
Will you paint the walls around the furniture?
No. Our work is the furniture, not the walls, so any work on the walls is for a plasterer or decorator. We finish the furniture itself, as set out in your quote.
How fitting day works
At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Whatever the age of your home, the furniture is fitted to the walls you have, with scribing where they wander and packing where floors dip. Hand painting can happen on site, while spray-painted pieces come ready from the workshop.

We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a quote in writing. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Advice
Flats, conversions and lettings
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the design visit.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
