  • Clothes with nowhere proper to go
  • A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

Tips worth knowing

People planning fitted wardrobes often ask about these. They help before and after fitting:

  • Let us know about any damp you’ve seen on bedroom walls
  • In a leasehold flat, read the lease first
  • Decide what goes on shelves and what goes in drawers
  • Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed

Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that is barely damp. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners.

Let doors close gently rather than slamming, and keep sliding doors from crashing into the ends. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Emerson Park

Fitted wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth. If you are living with a tight bedroom where doors get in the way and space under the eaves going to waste, fitted wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Emerson Park, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. Small rooms like that suit fitted wardrobes, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the fitted wardrobe we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Emerson Park

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Emerson Park?

Yes, Emerson Park is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Emerson Park?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?

Floors in older houses are often out of level. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet, so the doors hang true.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

How do I get a quote?

Just drop us a line using the contact form. Rough measurements and a few photos help, and then we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design.

From workshop to your room

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so it’s worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
  3. Your written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and ceiling; a hand-painted finish is done on site.
  6. Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.

Preparing the room

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Arranging a design visit

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 87% of households in the area around Emerson Park, based on Census 2021. A house like that usually has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

If you live near Haynes Park, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Hare Hall, about 1.2 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. Is it time for fitted wardrobes?

Moving home often prompts it. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom, or won’t go up the stairs at all. Built-in wardrobes are planned for the room you live in now.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
  • No space in front for doors to swing
  • Wasted space beside the chimney breast
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

For a flat near Emerson Park station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Could you do it yourself?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we’ve measured the way in.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases.
