Ask about fitted wardrobes in Upminster Bridge
Could you do it yourself?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Fitted wardrobes in Upminster Bridge: what you get
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. In other rooms, the units sit either side of a window, sometimes with a dressing table or a window seat between them. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. If your home has a bedroom that never feels tidy and too little room for clothes, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
A bedroom in a house from between the wars normally has simpler mouldings than a Victorian one, so fitted furniture can often run neatly to the ceiling. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Upminster Bridge, high cupboards make a good home for suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the fitted wardrobe we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

Questions we’re often asked
Is Upminster Bridge in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes, we work across Havering, Upminster Bridge included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Upminster Bridge?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Upminster Bridge?
It is easiest to message us from the contact page with some details about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
Should I send photos?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
How long will the fitting take?
The time on site depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We will talk you through what to expect beforehand.
What affects the price in Upminster Bridge
There’s no set price, because there is no set room. What affects it comes down to:
- The overall size of the piece
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Helping us understand the room
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it helps to send:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Examples of the look you are after
To get a quote, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.
Honest limits
Some parts of a job need another trade, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Treating damp or mould on the walls
- Decorating or plastering the room
- Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll tell you. How it works.
What goes into it
- Hand-painted finish
- Hinged or sliding doors
- Birch plywood
- Spray-painted finish
- Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
- Moisture-resistant MDF
What happens on fitting day
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is normally more generous. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.
- You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- We visit to measure the room and talk through the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too. Let us know about parking as well, as a van usually needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
- You receive a quote in writing for the wardrobes.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
Before we arrive
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
How to get a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Is bespoke worth it?
Standalone wardrobes cost less to buy and can come with you when you move. If you’re renting or moving soon, that may matter most. Built-in wardrobes become part of the house and are made for that room alone. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can use the full height too.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

If you live in a period home close to Church of St Laurence, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
