Farnborough Fitted Wardrobes

In Farnborough, we design fitted wardrobes around the room you actually have. Your fitted wardrobe is designed at a visit to your home and made in our workshop.

  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
  • A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

Fitted wardrobes in Farnborough

About our fitted wardrobes in Farnborough

Fitted wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. Most enquiries start with wasted space beside the chimney breast and no space in front for doors to swing, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Farnborough, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. That is where fitted wardrobes earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.

If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so it is worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. It starts when you tell us about the room, the floor it is on and the wardrobes you want.
  2. At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
  3. A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

Arranging a design visit

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, get in touch through our contact form.

What affects the cost of fitted wardrobes

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

Helping us understand the room

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, message us from the contact page. The written quote follows the visit.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.

How it is made

Spray-painted finish

Spraying coats edges and corners evenly. The colour is agreed at the design stage.

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front as you prefer. Internal drawers keep a clean run of doors.

Fitted wardrobes in Farnborough: local notes

Homes built between 1973 and 1999 make up about 31% of the housing in the area around Farnborough, with about 27% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. There are 11 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Farnborough. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Bromley included. Vans bringing furniture to Farnborough fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Down House, about 2.1 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. For an older house near Church of St Giles the Abbot, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If you live in a flat close to Orpington station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Farnborough is about 2 miles north-east of Orpington, in the London Borough of Bromley. From period terraces to newer flats in Farnborough, we measure the room as it is and design around it. Across Bromley, we cover Farnborough and the places around it.

In BR6, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. We cover homes on streets like Tye Lane, Peel Road and Pitt Road, along with the roads around them, whether you want fitted wardrobes or another piece made for the room. Close by, we also work in Green Street Green (1 mile south-east), Locksbottom (1 mile north-west), Crofton (1 mile north), Farthing Street (1 mile south-west) and Downe (2 miles south-west). Other parts of Bromley we cover include Orpington (2 miles north-east), Bromley (4 miles north-west), Beckenham (6 miles north-west), St Mary Cray (3 miles north-east), Chislehurst (4 miles north) and Penge (7 miles north-west).

Local landmarks in Farnborough

We fit furniture in homes around Newstead Wood School and The Buff pub. The nearest railway station is Orpington station, about 1.2 miles north-east. Other landmarks nearby include Crofton Roman Villa (1.1 miles north-east) and Orpington Hospital (0.9 miles east).

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Farnborough

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Farnborough?

Yes, we work across Bromley, Farnborough included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Does a conservation area in or near Farnborough affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. The wardrobe is shaped to the ceiling line, keeping hanging space at the tall end and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns tricky space into storage.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
