Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, keeping long hanging where there is height and drawers or shelves lower down. Space that’s hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. If you’re living with clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms and wasted space beside the chimney breast, fitted wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
With interwar houses or semis a big part of the housing around Green Street Green, bedrooms are often simple shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. That makes a full wall of fitted furniture simple to plan, laid out around what you store. Where a loft conversion has been added, the sloping ceiling can take storage too.
Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Green Street Green homes and fitted wardrobes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Green Street Green were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 45%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 22%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 10 entries within half a mile of the centre of Green Street Green. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your home in Green Street Green is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
If your children go to Green Street Green Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Near listed buildings like Chelsfield Hall Farmhouse, less than half a mile south-east of the centre of Green Street Green, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Green Street Green
An awkward room is another reason. A sloping ceiling, a chimney breast, a low window or a door in the wrong place can defeat standard furniture. We shape fitted wardrobes around those features.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
- A tight bedroom where doors get in the way
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
If you live near Hewitt's Chalk Bank, fitted wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- How parking will work on your street
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
Is bespoke worth it?
Bought wardrobes are made in set sizes, which leaves gaps above and beside them. A fitted wardrobe runs to the ceiling and the walls. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, which shows up against standard furniture. Fitted pieces are scribed to both.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

How fitting day works
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- It starts when you tell us about the room, the floor it’s on and the wardrobes you want.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn. Let us know about parking as well, as a van normally needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
- A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.
How to prepare
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
How to get a quote
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

What affects the price in Green Street Green
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- Parking and unloading on your street
- The width and height of the space
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.
Before the design visit
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Your postcode and the borough
- Approximate measurements of the space
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Questions we’re often asked
Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Green Street Green?
Yes, we work across Bromley, Green Street Green included, and across the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Green Street Green?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Is it possible to have storage over the bed?
Yes. Building around the bed uses a wall that often goes unused, with wardrobes at the sides and cupboards overhead. We measure the bed and the room at the measuring visit.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
The fitting depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The making happens in our workshop, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.
How do I get started?
Just get in touch through our contact form. It’s useful to send rough measurements and a few pictures, and then we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design.
