Farnborough Wall Beds

We make wall beds in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood for homes in Farnborough. Each piece is finished by spray or by hand, in the colour you choose.

  • A playroom that can sleep visitors
  • A guest room that sits empty most of the time
  • A home office that also sleeps guests

Need wall beds in Farnborough?

Before and after fitting day

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Tell us what the wall is made of if you know
  • Follow the mechanism maker’s mattress guidance
  • Keep children away while the bed moves
  • Check there is room for the bed to fold down

Should the bed start to move differently, stop and let us know. Don’t try to adjust the mechanism yourself unless its maker says you can.

Let us know what the wall is made of if you know. Solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard need different fixings, and we check it during the design visit too.

How we make wall beds for Farnborough

A home office that doubles as a guest room is a common request. We can design a wall with a fold-down bed and a desk or shelving around it, so the bed does not dominate the working day. Cable routes for the desk can be planned in, while new sockets are for your electrician. Most enquiries start with a hobby room with a bed for guests and more floor space in a studio flat; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, which leaves the side walls for storage and the bay for light. Around Farnborough, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so that shape of room is worth knowing. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.

We write quotes in plain English. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

From workshop to your room

When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made at our workshop come in next. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. We start with how the room is used and who’ll sleep there. The bed can sit among shelves or beside a desk.
  2. We visit to measure up and look at what the wall is made of.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish.
  4. We build and finish everything in our workshop.
  5. We fit it in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies.

Preparing the room

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Starting with a design visit

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, use our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Flats, leases and landlords

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Bedrooms in Farnborough: local notes

Homes built between 1973 and 1999 make up about 31% of the housing in the streets around Farnborough, with about 27% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. There are 11 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Farnborough. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Bromley included. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Farnborough is covered by it. How the van gets to your door is planned at the measuring visit.

If your children go to Farnborough Primary School or a school nearby, wall beds in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. The wider area includes historic houses such as Down House, about 2.1 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Giles the Abbot, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.

Common questions about wall beds

Is Farnborough in the area you cover for wall beds?

Yes, Farnborough is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bromley and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Will a conservation area stop me having wall beds fitted in Farnborough?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

What happens when you come to measure?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

What space does a fold-down bed take up?

The bed needs room in front of it to come down, on top of the cabinet’s own depth. We measure this at the design visit, so the design works.

Materials and finishes

Bed mechanism housing

We build the housing to suit the mechanism and fix it as the maker specifies. When the bed is up, the front looks like cupboard doors.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting suits a cabinet that should match the room’s woodwork.
