How we make walk-in wardrobes for Green Street Green

Many London homes have a small room that is awkward as a bedroom. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are hanging for coats, dresses and shirts and setting aside a corner of a large bedroom.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the housing around Green Street Green, bedrooms are often simple shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. If the loft has been converted, sloping ceilings bring their own options.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Green Street Green?

Some homes have a small room that never quite earns its keep. Turning it into a dressing room can make better use of it instead of a store for odds and ends.

We’re often asked to help with:

  • More space for clothes and shoes
  • A side each for a couple
  • A bedroom without crowded wardrobes
  • Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts

Living in a block of flats near Chelsfield station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

A basic rail system is easy to change, which suits some people well. A fitted walk-in wardrobe adds doors, drawers and shelves where you want them, in a finish that suits the house. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Fitting day, step by step

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so let us know at the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. The units are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.

Before fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Starting with a design visit

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Questions we’re often asked

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Green Street Green?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.

I live near Chelsfield station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

How much time does fitting need?

Every room is different. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through.

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
